Despite being a longtime Souls fan, I passed up this entry on release. I just finished my first playthrough with all non-DLC bosses killed and had a blast. I think Dark Souls 3 has some of the best boss fights in Fromsoft's entire catalog. Some of the areas in this game are also shockingly beautiful and evocative, up there with the prettiest zones of Sekiro and Elden Ring. However, I thought many of its enemy encounters were too reliant on unmanagably large groups swarming you, and the level design was disappointingly safe.

Overall, this was a great time. I'd recommend playing Dark Souls 3 if you haven't. It's solid as both an entry point into the Souls series and as a synthesis of the ideas from DS1, Bloodborne, and DS2. And as the mechnical/design basis for Fromsoft's later games, it's also fun to examine as a checkpoint in time.
