Have you ever thought outside of the box?

  • FPS
  • Open-world
  • Metroidvania
  • Secrets and collectibles galore
  • Freedom to explore and solve puzzles your way
So, if you are still here... Let's get down to it:

You don't have the objects you need? Improvise, adapt, overcome!

Supraland is a love letter to a range of nearly forgotten genres, going from Castlevania all the way to The Legend of Zelda. But if you raise your hand telling me that these titles are still alive, think again. I am talking about the classical titles which made these franchises famous, from times when the beauty of life was found in the travel, not in the summit.
Honestly, I was very skeptical about this one, thinking it was just another wannabe revival of genres to satisfy die-hard fans. Got it in a sale (and now I regret not having paid full price for it) just because of the reviews, in this harsh time where indie games get destroyed by ruthless reviewers, you gotta give a chance to the few survivors with the positive rating. It took me less than 30 minutes to find out how I was wrong...
The game puts you in the legs (you have no hands nor feet but it doesn't keep you from swinging that sword, lol) of a prince turned hero when the well in your village go dry, and before you know it, you embark on an epic quest among a long-time grudge between two tribes while gathering artifacts to help you explore the vast world... which actually is a giant sandbox built by a creative child.
Being developed almost entirely by a single talented person (with a most charming name, zero bias here), Supraland keeps your curiosity alight, as you look in every nook and cranny for secrets and upgrades. Sometimes, the open-end-ness of some sections makes you think, "I shouldn't be here yet, guess this is a bug"... but most of the time it is just you being rewarded for your lateral thinking, which may give you access to places way before you get the key for some locked doors.
A Link to The Past was top-down and Symphony of The Night was sidescroller, right? Well, combat in this FPS Metroidvania feels at home with its mix between close and ranged weapons, where enemies have a wide array of skills to have you always searching for a new way to survive battles that go as far as you against an entire army! Landing a rail shot on your own projectile just to make it explode, fragging thirty enemy units in a single flash has never felt so good.
If you don't mind the seemingly childish design, this game packs a true feast for the Adventure/Exploration fans, you can feel the developer's love for the game in every aspect of it (go check out his own profile, helping players out in the community), and it is reassuring to see works like this getting some spotlight among the generic AAA infested mainstream. Even though I have finished my campaign, I can see myself getting back to it so I can finish my achievement list, collecting every last chest under the sky.

It's been a while, but Digital Extremes never let it get old. If you just wanna gang up with friends and blast some aliens with swords and magic in space, then you're in for a treat.
And if you don't have any buddies, nevermind, just search for a receptive clan and you're ready to go...
See you in the Void, fellow Tenno.
