Only done one playthrough so far, and got one ending. But I really enjoy what I've played.

This game has a great balance of combat, storytelling, art, and exploration. I am absolutely buying the full version, and cannot recommend it enough. If you enjoy procedural room-by-room roguelikes like Binding of Isaac and Our Darker Purpose, with a serene soundtrack, beautiful landscapes, and fluid combat, please give this a try. Even this free prologue, which only gives you one map and boss, was very fulfilling for me, and I can't wait to play more.

I'm absolutely digging it. I only did one run, but the first death actually felt like my fault (didn't check the whole room, got oneshot while burdened cause I got greedy). Rewarding gameplay, great sound, RON PERLMAN, good graphics. Only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the camera angles, but they don't cause too much trouble.

I want to start this review by saying I love the first game, like so many others. I thought it was a near-perfect game, at least for me. It had all of the elements, visually, psychologically, thematically, and gameplay wise, that I wanted in a horror experience. It was and still is one of my favorite horror titles.

Layers of Fear 2 plays like someone explained the first game badly to someone tho played a Slenderman game once and grew up watching silent movies. Most of what I liked about the first game is either badly copied or not here at all. The voice acting is decent, yes, but doesn't contribute to the environment. COntrols are a little bulky, but I really only had issue with them during the chase scenes.

Or, should I say, scene. My god, the first chase scene. I went through it five times, because half of it you can't see (black and white only works either in sparse amounts, or as the filter for the entire game. This half-and-half is annoying and just makes it super hard to find your way around. Not to mention you have a tiny window for error no matter how well you run the gauntlet. I mean less than 3-4 seconds.

Overall, this game feels like someone waved a can of La Croix over LoF 1 and then poured it in my breakfast cereal. Never have I asked for a refund so fast.

Cute cats beat up not-cute creatures with fire and swords.

Also Kit-Kat is best Cat.

I'm reviewing after 2.8 hours cause that's how long it took me to beat all the content available (minus the challenge dungeons). And I cannot WAIT for more. I was hesitant about buying the game at first, because the graphics and gameplay looked a little flash-esque to me, but really the gameplay video doesn't do it justice. The combat is super smooth and gratifying, the combos are a lot of fun, and the bosses are tough but fair.

The story is very good, too. Normally I just try and button mash my way through cutscenes, but I really enjoy the writing in this game. Even if it seems everyone everywhere just has the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck.

It's really very good. The combat is smooth as silk, the animation is wonderful, and every time you die you feel like it's your fault.

EXCEPT THE LASERS. WHY. WHY THE LASERS.
