I really loved this game! Though I have a ton of experience with classic Sonic games, and the comparisons to them are quite abundant if you look around on the internet (I am not helping), Freedom Planet is actually quite sufficiently different. It almost feels like a mix of Sonic and Mega Man gameplay, which is probably why I am quite a bit worse at FP, because I suck at Mega Man lol. However, the challenge is welcome, and I look forward to many more hours spent trying to improve my skills at FP :3

Putting the gameplay aside, I also loved the story a lot. This is a weird reference for me to make, but as a fan of the Wings of Fire books, I kind of live and die for this game's brand of earnest, heart-on-your-sleeve, even slightly cheesy at times, storytelling. The characters have really fun personalities and I genuinely enjoyed the emotional beats the plot took.

I don't have much to say about the music because I haven't really spent the time to relisten to the soundtrack alone, but I'm fairly confident in saying that what I have heard is really really good! I also really love the art direction of this game, though I can't really point to specifics because I'm not very used to critiquing that sort of thing. All I'll say is that the sprites are super cute!

So yeah this game fun pls buy

it's really long and will probably suck you in for long periods of time, but is also very very very very fun. The music is also really well made and I'm shocked at how good the production value is. The story is intriguing as well, and it's fairly accessible for those who might not be familiar with RPGs. Only thing I don't love is that finding Will Seeds can be rather tedious, but I'm terrible at finding secrets in games anyway, so I just use a guide lol.

it's so fun. A lot more mazey than I expected at first but once you get the hang of it, it's a game that's super enjoyable not just the first time, but on subsequent playthroughs. It's super easy to replay older levels and immensely satisfying trying to beat them faster and faster.

This game is absolutely AWESOME :D

Not only is it mechanically super fun and interesting, but the story is wonderful too and really well written! I'm not a speedrunner so I played the game pretty casually, but even in this case the game was still great. It does a thing I really like where, while the levels are super challenging and difficult, it's not punishing like a lot of platformers sometimes are. If you mess up, you don't respawn at some far away checkpoint, you don't have to redo the level, and you *certainly* don't have to redo the entire game like CERTAIN classic NES and Genesis era platformers. Instead, you just respawn at the beginning of the screen you were at. One can think of it as Savestates: The Videogame. But unexpectedly, designing a game this way actually works super well! It allows levels to present really creative challenges while minimizing the frustration factor. I bet even someone who isn't very good at platformers could still love this game.

Also, the music is incredible. I will confess that I played a chunk of this game at school, which meant muting my laptop. I REALLY wish I hadn't done that, and plan to go back to the levels whose music I missed, because what I have heard is unlike any game I've ever played. They're lovely atmospheric tunes I could listen to plenty outside the game (perhaps I should purchase the soundtrack)!

And of course, the story was so captivating. I will disclose that I do not have anxiety nor depression, so I can't directly relate to Madeline's experiences. Nonetheless, I do relate to her in some scenes a lot, and those scenes really hit hard. But even if I couldn't, I just really loved the few but well-carved characters, especially Theo, who puts up a very goofy demeanor but is hinted to go through an internal struggle distinct from Madeline's. The message of self-acceptance is also really well done. To be honest I wish I'd played this game when it came out, because I really could've used it! But hey, better late than never. I won't go into any more specifics about the story because YOU'VE GOT TO PLAY IT YOURSELF OMG!!!

I will admit I am rather nitpicky but the game has a tendency to crash and stutter hard when being played with keyboard and mouse, which is just bizarre. That coupled with the unfixable stuttering when moving your character diagonally just put a bad taste in my mouth.

Chrono Trigger is a fantastic game but I'd really rather play the DS version, even if it's pretty expensive to get used. This port feels cheap.

It's a really chill game, but what really surprised me was the emphasis on story and characters. The lovable cast really pulled me in. Just a lovely time.
