Absolutely awesome. Environment is immersive and lore is deep. Open world mechanics are as polished as the likes of RDR2 and GTA. Storyline is very well written and legitimately emotional at points. If you want a mindless shoot'em up game then this isn't for you. The online community is immense and the mod scene is supposedly good as well though I haven't tried any. Make sure you buy it with the Phantom Liberty DLC.

Game was pretty good. Well worth downloading on the EA Play subscription. The only gripe I have is that the devs went WAY to hard on the cutscenes. They were long and felt like they were trying to hard to make it "epic". I mean, I like good storytelling but I don't need it to win an oscar either.

Pretty decent game, especially considering the age. The campaign could be a little longer but overall I enjoyed this game.

Better campaign than B3 but the ending was sorta anti-climactic. Overall a really good game.

It was pretty fun for an older title. Cinematics were pretty impressive given it's age. Completed the campaign in about 6 hours. Wouldn't buy it stand-alone but nice with EA Play.

This game is pretty addictive. And the replay factor is solid and gameplay can either be "chill" or very intense depending on your mood that day. The steam workshop is brimming with mods and goodies to enhance the experience as well as a very active community online. I'll usually play this game for a few weeks at a time and then come back months later to do it all over again. The upcoming "Update 42" is also a big deal so I highly recommend this getting this game.

The Elephants in the Room

{Note; Played game for over half hour, not sure why it says "8 mins"}

--Performance--: When optimization is SO BAD that many folks can’t even play the game they bought, then that isn’t a “performance issue”, that is a core problem with the game itself. Also, if you have to lower multiple graphics settings on decent rigs to get the game to play, that is NOT a solution, that is a “workaround” to a foundational issue with how the game is built. The problem is also that improper optimization hurts reliability, efficiency, AND consistency. Which means we can have people with similar setups having vastly different experiences so chiming in that “It works great for me” is not as big a revelation as you think it is. If you are having a great experience, I am genuinely happy for you. I’m also glad that Paradox is apparently working on solutions, but it is also worth noting that ANY of the improvements on this front should have been done BEFORE the game was released if they actually cared because no serious person believes they weren’t aware of how bad it was beforehand. And no, the announcement mere days before the release that they “didn’t reach their performance benchmarks” is not an example of integrity, only half-hearted honesty. Integrity would be delaying the release to ensure a quality product or at the very least, labeling the title as EA while extending the refund window.

--Mods and Creator Content--: Waiting until days before the release to announce that the game won’t use the Steam Workshop was a punch to the gut for many of us. It felt like a bait and switch from someone we trusted. Why is this such a big deal? Because companies ditch a VERY successful, public source of content for a proprietary one for very few reasons. There’s no doubt that part of it is to moderate quality or ensure compatibility with consoles. But if anyone here thinks the primary reason isn’t to “gatekeep” content for the express reason that it conflicts with future DLC profits, I’ve got some bad news for you. We’ve seen it happen elsewhere so the formula is pretty obvious by now. Not having the map editor, asset creator, or even the Paradox workshop running before the release is also another example that they were more concerned about making the Q4 earnings window than releasing a feature complete product to their loyal customers.

-- “Just wait, they’re fixing it”--: No, just no. This is like a car salesman talking up and then selling you a new shiny car with no oil which immediately overheats while your friends ridicule you for expecting what you were sold. We didn’t pay for a “work in progress”, we paid AAA title prices for a complete game. What we got was (at best) an early access beta version of a generic looking city-builder game that has a few interesting new features if you can run it. Not holding Paradox accountable in any way we can just reinforces the attitude that Paradox (and any other game developers) can release unfinished games with no repercussions while their customer base just rolls over for them. I urge those who can, to apply for refunds even if the time has expired because it is obvious, they don’t care about us and the only thing corporations really respond to is loss of profit.

--Actual game--: The problem with CS2 is that it isn’t any better than CS1 with a few mods. The water looks awful, tornados look like clip art, buildings are bland, the economy is fake, maps are a joke, terrain conformity is worse than CS1, bugs are not insignificant for a released game, and everywhere you look in the game the details are either great or terrible with no in-between. The game just looks,… bad in places. YES, there are some genuinely cool improvements but for every one of those there are 3 steps back from CS1. I never expected CS2 to have all the assets and mods of CS1 but clearly most of us didn’t expect to start from literal scratch. Simply adding the paradox version of Move-IT, TM:PE, or even just having simple quay assets would have been a start.

--Summation--: I am not a huge gamer but simulation games are my bag and especially city-builders to which CS1 has been the gold standard for years. I literally bought almost every single title and DLC from CO & Paradox so I was a complete fan-boy for them because I have counted on the quality of their work. That trust was obviously not valued. I am actively critical on forums because I was so excited about this game and wanted it to succeed so much but for all the reasons listed above, I am pretty sad. I completely agree with some folks that the devs likely protested the release date but were overruled by greedy executives or something. But in the end, it is the same result and if we continue to excuse behavior like this from these companies, then there’s no reason to believe it won’t happen again and again. It is very possible that the future mods are great, the game eventually gets fixed, and all is well. But I am dubious at this point, and I pray I am completely wrong. I will gladly eat my hat on that day and then enjoy the game that SHOULD have been released to us.

To those who can get refunds, get them. To those who can’t, sit on it until it gets out of unofficial beta. To those enjoying it now, I respect your viewpoint and hope you keep enjoying it.

My new hyper-fixation. So much content. Freedom to follow the story or just mess around.

Can't recommend this game enough. It almost felt more like an epic movie thanks to the superb acting and story-telling that it featured.

This game has been an obsession for around 3 weeks now. It has wonderful audio and even after playing it for 153 hours, I still get chills when the infected scream at me. The open world mechanics are great and I've encountered no real bugs to speak of. Great work to the developers who made this game.
