The HONKING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORAL IMPROVES!

EDIT: 2024.05.11.
As with today, we haven't got our fellow divers back. And SONY is AWFULLY quiet. I keep my negative review until the LAST country who were in this fight are back. We dive together. Or DIE alone.

--

As it stands the game is in good condition. And despite it requires the constant updates it is enjoyable to play. The issue of this negative review is NOT the game's condition, but the scummiest move by Sony to force the steam users and PC players to connect their game to THEIR services PSN. Many countries are excluded from this service which renders them basically banned, while the company - SONY - sneakily rewrote their terms of coniditions to fit their current demands.
--

This review WILL STAY negative until Sony backs down. ENTIRELY!

A seriously forgotten little gem on steam, if you have a few crew members to it, this can be a really fun game to play. On casual and hardcore level.
I approve.

Simple music, simple graphics and LIBER-TEA!

"This game is more Starship Troopers than Starship Troopers itself."

Here we go...

Back around October, me and me crew decided to look around the market for a new co-op game, as Left4Dead 2 and Vermintide started to become stale and we bumped into Deep Rock Galactic... that is where our/my story started with this fine specimen.

TL;DR: this is the EARLY ACCESS experience you were looking for IF you like: sci-fi, co-op, teamwork, shooting, dwarves and you loved the trash sci-fis from the 90's. It is a minecraft for REAL MEN/DWARVES!

Idea: Pretty good. I loved the sci-fi dwarf idea. Four brave dwarf specialists gets the job done. They repair, they mine, but most importantly ROCK AND STONE! The lore is a bit shady and blurry at this point, but I do think the devs will clear it out eventually. Basically you work for a dwarf company as 'damage-control', 'pest control' and fixer. Miner... but with extras. On the MOST dangerous planet in the galaxy.

Gameplay: Pretty simple, yet not so easy. This is a four person co-op game, you can play it alone or with a smaller group, but you can reach full potential with four persons, above Hazard level 4. Each dwarf has its own task and speciality, which the player must harness to get through the missions. Be it mining, rescue or search-and-destory. The faster you and your group is the better, as the rushes are getting harder and harder with each time, not to mention the great variety of enemies you can face under the Crust... swarmers, grabbers, behemoths, suicide cockroaches and much more. Ammo is a deal too, as some maps provide you enough materials for re-supply others punish you for loitering, you must make decisions on higher difficulties to risk a new turn or just finish the mission and get back to the station. It has its really nice moments... as plans you make with your partners are always changing as the enemies can spawn suddenly.
Each mission done gets you rewards, level and prestige which then you can spend on your dwarf(s). Weapon upgrades, armor upgrades but MOST IMPORTANTLY beards and helmets. So you could rack up more kills in style in the next missions.
There is no end-game content just yet, but you can promote your respected dwarves, I bet it will be fixed later on.

Visuals: I have a relatively good machine, but I have to be honest I don't care about the visuals despite that, if it is pleasent and running smooth, I'm a happy camper. It got a nice visual representation, so even weaker PCs can handle it well.

Dwarves: They are your heroes in this story. Four brave dwarves (hope we will get a few new ones) with four different classes. A gunner, a scout, a driller and an engineer.

-The Gunner: He is your DD and killing machine, with a huge minigun (or artillery piece), he can make ziplines and drop a shield to save the day. I think he is a rewarding choice for beginners so too really useful, if you know how to be mindeful with the ammo.

-The Scout: A DD utility mix, he can be upgraded to 'sniper' as he has a Garand-like option late-game, he can snipe out the enemy and best utilized (in my opinion) on enemies which must disappear from the map fast. Not a CC character but he certainly got an option to do that too, as he can kite like no one else with his grapling gun. Essential, as he can drop flares so you can see more in the dark, and he can reach high points (with the help of the engineer) , to get materials for you. He requires mastering.

-The Driller: I think he is mainly utility, but given his flamer and freezer options, you can go CC with him too. Useful lad, as he can make shortcuts on the map and sometimes these shortcuts can save dwarf lives and time for your crew. Plus he is the hard lad against the swarmers. Not to mention he got a strong explosive charge.

-The Engineer: Right now, he can rack up the most kills the easiest way, as he got really good CC options and turret(s) to handle critically big rushes. He is also useful with the platform gun which can create bridges, as support for the scout. Really rewarding, but a bit fragile.

Enemies: The Bugs or Glyphids and their various subspecies. If you saw Starship Troopers you know what to expect... they come in swarms, with reckless force. They fly, they jump out of the ground, they lurk on the ceiling and so on. Some are armored, others support their regular grunts, while there are ones which are designed to mess your ranks. The rushes vary, so too its numbers, sometimes you get compositions which make you sweat (on high difficulty) and sometimes if you position right, you feel yourself like Arnold with a minigun, racking up those kills. Or as we say it, you just ROCK AND STONE! With the updates the Horrors of the Planet became more immersive and I do think the devs have a few more tricks in their sleeves. In general I would say the Glyphids are worthy opponents for the Dwarves.

Music: For me a HUGE factor. There are good games with SUPER soundtracks and there are regular games with mediocore soundtracks. A good music can give your shivers and make moments memorable, remember the Witcher 2 first 10 minutes, when you woke up with Geralt in the middle of Foltest's siege camp under the La Vallette castle. That soundtrack burned into my memory, so too the soundtrack of Deep Rock Galactic. They are distinctive and fitting for dungeon and mine crawling. It changes when there are bosses around or there is a rush, but for me... the extraction music named: 'March of the Brave' is the crown jewel. It is simple, but with the 'drum' in the background I know there will be struggle to get to the extraction point... I won't lie, I'm partial with this one, as I have really good memories with it. Whenever the extraction button is hit I just wait to hear it and watch for the signal to get going with my 'colleagues' (whether they are my own crew or complete strangers) to the extraction pod and I always know there will be struggle for survival, but first and foremost I know... you can't leave a dwarf behind in the Deep Space. The Leaf Munchers might run from this place to save their sorry arses, but dwarves stand together and leave no one behind. For we are only a few and they are numberless...
...so nice soundtrack. Yeah.

Is it worth it?
Yes it does, the community is decent enough, the game developes with almost each month and I think the devs won't abandon it. I hope for more great updates and much more epic time with this one. It's a good relaxation for casual players and even serious co-op lovers. I hope we will see a grand game emerge.

How flawless it is?
It is far from perfect, as there are still holes and bugs (hah) here and there, but compared to the early access market, this game is perfect. I do think the dev team is working hard to solve all problems and I doubt they will leave this game half ready full of unsolved issues.

Was I paid to write this?
No, I wasn't. I'm just a regular pleb from the depth of the internet. I just adore this game.

And remember... if you join us...
...LEAVE NO DWARF BEHIND...

You know exactly why I'm downvoting this...

Focus on the game and not on supporting riots and street violence.

This game had a really good start! A REALLY GOOD ONE! But after Hotline Miami and Hoxton Breakout this start was gone.
You need DLC to get proper weapon mods (or weapons) and now here is this "CS:GO Fortress" Microtransaction system sh*t.

-If you have dosh and you wanna spill it for nothing...
-If you like dumb players...
-If you like bad net code and desync in a game...

... this game is for you. Otherwise go and find a better game than this.

I love games about war and warfare, like casual FPS or RTS games, but I knew those games are not showing the real face of horror. A war is terrible and we can't even imagine what can bring.
This War of Mine was the perfect example what a war can bring and in a war you are not always the awesome spec ops guy with big guns... in this game you are the civilian who try to survive day to day in... Hell. Games like this can teach us a lot of things.

As for the game...
-Nice unique visuals (at least for me)
-Nice events and story telling
-Characters are real living beings, you can symphatise with them
-Nice survival and craft system
-FEEELS and SNIPERS on every corner (OK just kidding:D Feels are more dangerous than snipers in this game xD)
-Scavange is a responsible task
-Choices have impact on your characters and on the game
-Violence, murder, stealing is NOT always the only option!
-You will find new difficulty after every day

I really enyojd this game, and I hope more people will get it, because games like this have future.
If you up to a little challenge, and you're not a depressive type, plus you saw enough BLOODY-SCREEN-SO-REAL MLG FPS sh*t games and you want to see what a war can bring... this game is for you.

I wanted to feel that feel... but I lost it I lost the feel in Dubai. Than in the end I found it again and I thought... "There is no STOP on the FEELTRAIN"

8/10 Casual shooter
7/10 Visuals
10/10 Story
...
11/10 Feel

If u have some dosh and this game is on sale, its worth the price. I wanna see more games like this, with hard themes like this...
...with some old features like:
-Healthbar (NO bloody screen SO REAL!)
-Med packs, adrenalin shots, painkillers... etc.
-Stamina
-Some customization
-Maybe classes (like commando, marksman, recon etc.)
