Half-Life Alyx was a game that took 13 years to make and it certainly delivered. It immerses you into the role of Alyx perfectly, shaping her into a real character rather than the one we know from Half-Life 2. The world building and story in this game is phenomenal, which is to be expected from Valve's most successful franchise. VR allows for a whole extra level of depth and gameplay that simply cannot be achieved through mouse and keyboard, opening a door with your gun, throwing a grenade in and slamming it shut is an experience that shows all of Valve's effort into VR was worth it. Finding resin was a great way to encourage exploration, each room being filled to the brim with objects that you can interact with, even small things like whiteboard markers being able to draw on the window at the start of time game. A specific chapter, which I will not name, includes one of the most tense and horrific experiences I've ever had, having to use the gameplay elements that come with VR in order to progress while trying not to be terrified of the enemies that were stalking Alyx. This specific section of the game is something that I've never experienced before in VR and certainly will be one of the standout moments whenever this game is mentioned.

And wow that ending(which i wont be spoiling of course). I would be joking if I didn't say that ending was unexpected to say the least. The game crafts its story perfectly to put you in the role of Alyx Vance, a strong yet human girl who struggles throughout the game while constantly dealing with her own issues. Comparing this to the character of Gordon Freeman who really is just a blank slate for you to self insert yourself onto, Alyx provides much more depth into her character along with others like Russel who allow for quick and fun interactions throughout the game. Half-Life Alyx has great VR gameplay, while not innovating on it too much, meets the standards that you would expect from Valve and certainly presents one of the best stories in the series, raising the standards for any future titles that come out.

A must play for any owner of a VR headset^^
