Not only did FromSoft create an entire genre of games that would be cloned as much as DOOM was back in the day, they have also been holding the top spot as the best studio in this new Soulslike genre for so many years by constantly redefining what a Soulslike game is. Elden Ring is the culmination of all their past work: it looks like Demons' Souls and Bloodborne and it plays like Dark Souls with a bit of Sekiro thrown in there for good measure. It's also an open world game, which is probably the biggest innovation in the Soulslike genre so far, letting the player choose how to tackle each challenge and in what order. The graphics are beautiful, not award-winning, but FromSoft never really pushed the envelope in that regard, making up for it with amazing atmosphere, architecture and character design. Highly recommended to anyone who does not shy away from a difficult game.
