Risk of Rain 2 follows in it's 2D predecessor of repeating the same formula: Shoot stuff, git gud and don't die.
However, so many improvements have been made over the first game which far surpasses it, as such changes had to be made upon it's transition to 3D:
Firstly, the change to a third-person shooter roguelike instead of a platforming one. This allows for a much more flexibility of mobility, something that you'll very much need when being assaulted by enemies at all angles and at an ever-increasing spawn rate and damage.
Secondly, while the pixelated art style hasn't entirely transferred over apart from icons and menu/UI, the limited colored palette has via cell shading. Chris Christodoulou also returns for yet another epic score and one that dynamically adjusts to whatever you're doing.
Thirdly, more everything! More items (both passive and equippable) to spec out your character's runs along with most, if not all, of the returning favorites from RoR1. This includes options to convert obtained items into much more preferred and optimal loadouts. However, much like the items themselves, these options too are subject to RNG and availability. More characters to experiment and decimate enemies with along with additional characters (again, some new and some returning) currently being developed. A much more stable and directly-supported multiplayer is also a highly-anticipated and much-needed addition in comparison to it's predecessor. Of course, don't expect entirely smooth gameplay while playing with other cross-country, as lag can and will happen from such long-distance lobbies.
In short, wonderful experiences all around with each run to keep you coming back for more, and it very appropriately answers the question of "What if Risk of Rain was in 3D?" from seven years ago.

Kickstarter done right! Definitely a worthy successor to Igavania's of the past and right up there with, if not exceeding, Symphony of the Night.

After 4+ years and 400+ hours playing this game as of this writing, Warframe still remains my go-to game for when I'm short on time or desire much longer gaming sessions. Sure, it's a grind but then again, what mmo isn't? All weapons, frames, landing craft and pets can be crafted/bred without having to spend a single penny (though, as a Master-level founder for the game, that hasn't necessarily stopped me :P).
I have been a fan of this game ever since it's conception as the original Dark Sector. Now, as a spiritual sequel to the Dark Sector that currently exists, I am glad to have been taking part in a project that otherwise would not have existed. As the community has grown over the years, you'll never have to worry about waiting too long to find squadmates if you're having difficulty clearing a particular mission, not to mention the recently-placed reward sharing system allows you to obtain some of the more rare components and blueprints that much easier. Go on, give this game a shot and Get Clem!

To me, this is the FPS equivalent of a Dynasty Warriors game. Sure it may get repetitive, but if you're looking for good, solid fun on a visceral level, look no further. The oftentimes cringe-worthy puns your farmer mentor offers on a "daily" (per-level) basis, the fact that you can play as a skeleton, the self-assurance of your contributions to the world's bacon supply and the sub-$1 price point make this a no-brainer.

Literally, turn your brain off while playing this and don't let things like high-end next-gen graphics or robust storylines get in the way of your enjoyment because you won't find them here, but what you will find is a funny and decent shooter for what it's worth.
