Since people are influenced by the media they consume and it being a common theme, the stigmas around mental illness like being violent are very dangerous and harmful to actual mentally ill people. Just take this excerpt, for example:
"A 2006 national survey found, for example, that 60% of Americans thought that people with schizophrenia were likely to act violently toward someone else, while 32% thought that people with major depression were likely to do so."

On this website you can see just how much more likely mentally ill people are to become victims of crimes like theft, rape and murder.

Stereotypes and stigmatization actually worsen the conditions for mentally ill people. Everyone, but especially you as a police officer, must do better than that!

Okay at first I didn't want to take you seriously but as it seems you're a police officer and also holding the view that all murderers are mentally ill, I now must show you proper resources on just how wrong you are.

Please read the following article by the Canadian Mental Health Association, which states:
"The conditions which increase the risk of violence are the same whether a person has a mental illness or not."

In this article published by the BBC it states:
"Mentally ill people are four times more likely to be a victim of violence, according to an international study."
and
"Mental Health charities said, despite public fears, people with mental illness were much more likely to be a victim than a perpetrator."
