opinion: humanism is the only way forward. imo there has never lived a person with a better attitude about humanity than Alfred Adler.. the humanistic values which his method admonished set forth in psychiatry an enduring paradigm of equality, which survived nazi-germany's oppression and would later assist in dismantling segregation by inspiring Kenneth B. Clark's argument in Plessy V. Ferguson and Rev.Dr.King's notion of the "drum major instinct".. his unitary theory of mental illness progressed contrarily to the freudian explanations in that it rightly understood mental conditions as arising through erroneous evaluations and guiding fictions which become accentuated by the teleological striving from feelings of inferiority, and sought after without regard for cooperation or social interest.. such a view stole the power away from the biological engine behind the freudian libido and attributed it instead to the individual's attitude towards approaching the tasks of social living. his work inspired Ichiro Kisimi and Fumitake Koga to write "The courage to be disliked" which, for the first time, awakened me to my potential to not only love and accept others but also myself.
