Prior to yesterday, I was aiming to give this game a positive but cautious recommendation. As of the 2.0 patch that just came out: My stability concerns have been addressed, there's more options to fine tune the difficulty for an easier/harder experience, lots of minor fun features like an alternate HUD and gore settings, AI improvements and fixes, more movement and melee options - and I already thought the game was good, now it's great!
It's not the standard atmosphere for a shooter like this so you should check out the demo first, but I'm all about it. Plays, looks, and feels great, good variety in level design and layouts, great tone and music. It's most of what I could ask for in a 90's inspired shooter like this and it came out of nowhere. I hope more is on the way.

I was wary of my initial purchase about 10 minutes in. From then on it had everything I was hoping it would deliver on: Fun level design, interesting and well-lit environments, rewarding exploration, lots of cool and weird weapons and armor, and then there's combat: There haven't been many to understand the simplicity and smoothness that makes traditional Dark Souls combat enjoyable but it's realized here, it plays pretty much exactly like I wanted it to. I was honestly a bit stunned.
Much like Dark Souls 1, it isn't perfect. There's some repeated enemies, some lighting issues, and a few balance issues. Also like DS1, these did not detract from the game enough to prevent me from enjoying it immensely.
My major bias with this game comes from the atmosphere. I'm a huge horror nut with space/sci-fi horror being some of my favorite, and even in the first 30 minutes I was getting vibes from Dead Space, Event Horizon, Doom, The Cube, Alien - just a few of my favorite things. Absolutely recommended.

A game hasn't made me feel so much and so strongly since Silent Hill 2, so nearly what, 18 years? Of course I'd recommend it, it's beautiful for everything it does. The only reason you wouldn't like this if you're just looking for an off-beat XCom clone solely to beat stuff up in.

For the most part, everything this game sets out and tries to do, it does perfectly; satisfying gunplay, huge arsenal of weapons and vehicles, all in a fleshed-out and brutal cyberpunk setting.

Take all of that, bundle it with a solid and crisp isometric artstyle, and top it off with a soundtrack that I haven't grooved so hard to since Hotline Miami. There's a huge amount of ways to play this game, and everything surrounding that gameplay makes it all better. They nailed it.
