As much as I'd like to recommend this game, I can't shake the feeling that the developers under-delivered when launching this game, ever since they released the first version up until now that the sequel is underway. Without getting into specifics, Space Engineers is, indeed, a game where you get to play as a Space Engineer. However, the tools and features that the game gives you can only be described by me as terribly lackluster.

Through the use of the creative mode, the initial mode that was released with the game, I expected it to behave like some sort of simulator in where you could explore the behaviors of space / planets without needing to worry about any survival elements. However, I feel the game terribly under-delivers with their physics engine, since it's lacking a lot of important features (drag, centripetal forces, aerodynamics, etc.) and the existing ones feel like the game is just reacting to your input, rather to the environment. For being a game about engineering, it has the same depth as products like RoboCraft and the similar.

The survival mode, while I feel it's way cooler than the creative mode, it suffers from the same issues and more of them. The only real difference between the two modes is that now you have HP/O2/H/Energy bars that get consumed or replenished depending on what you are doing, and the creative menu is gone. Enemy factions are not a threat (since they don't even attempt to come at you), and the different creatures added either don't spawn at all (spiders) or behave very poorly (wolves run straight at you, and bite every X amount of seconds, then run away at another straight line when HP is below a threshold). Creatures drop ship parts sometimes, which I can only assume this was due to an implementation that was never finished.

There's some other elements present in the game I dislike, although I don't think they need to be talked about nor I have enough time playing with them to provide valuable feedback (Loot box drop pods, market currency, factions, etc.)

Even with the modding scene, which is full of talented mod developers, it doesn't make the game worth in my opinion, at least on what I feel a game called "Space Engineers" should ever be. If you find building vehicles and exploring planets fun, you might like this game, but if you want a more detailed simulator with space elements, I can't recommend this to you.

Nice game. Although missing a price tag, the content it offers could be compared to some rather costly games of the same genre. It might be a nice shot for a person who wants to spend some nights having some good old scary moments.
