I'm going to come back and change this later as the game updates. It's not that this game isn't reccomended - its that FTK1 is currently a more fluid experience, and if you would rather put your time into consistency instead of new, bolder features, then go play FTK1 instead.

I fell in love with FTK1. Great price and great fun. I could boot it up solo and see how far I could go with a single PC. It was awesome. It felt smooth with minimal restarts. Even though I wished things would be more expansive in FTK1, still an incredible game.

In FTK2, also a great game (so far)! But I mean, damn, the multiplayer is really frustrating. Every game my party plays eventually ends up in someone having to go back to the main menu because they were kicked or booted, or we just got soft locked from a bug and had to reload. Thats honestly fine; it seems the development team knew this was an issue and created the party management feature (which, in all fairness, is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ life saver). However, you still can't rejoin an ongoing game and I have zero idea why. Having to have the whole party return to the main menu just to reload one person who disconnected is a serious momentum killer.

In addition, the game just feels prolonged for not a whole lot of reason. The larger map expansion is great for sure, with lots to do as the classes play into the environment. However, there was more direction in FTK1. I have 20 hours in so far and still feel lost. In the FTK1, I could get through half the game as a single PC on Master while feeling fulfilled and challenged. In FTK2, even after beating the first 2 acts with a full party of friends, I still feel like I need my hand held when adventuring to main or side quests.

What I will give props to is the development teams dedication into updating this game to fix things properly, thus why I say that I will change this review during 2024. FTK2s combat is also far better than FTK1s (summoning skeletons with 96 intelligence is a fun time) and I find the lore store to be pretty engaging this time around. There is so much here that could be fantastic about FTK2, and it is so, so close to being better than the original. There's just some work to do and I couldn't imagine paying full price for FTK2, as I did, and I'm a little disappointed.

In the future, if there is ever a FTK3, polish it more before release. I totally get the hype and wanting to hit deadlines, but this game could have also avoided review bombs by being more well prepared on launch.

To conclude this long, pointless, and (perhaps) unreadable review, I don't reccomend FTK2 if you:

a) wish to play multi-player consistently
b) own the first FTK and don't have a party of 4
c) are paying full price for FTK2

Give it time, I have faith. Bard is coming back in 2024 and the roadmap shows a quality of life update this game DESPERATELY needs. However, I will change my entire review to positive in an instant if Astronomer and Black Hole returns, because I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ miss sending random enemies into the shadow realm.
