like Celery Emblem's other games, this one's completely insane. sort of like how Primus made each album sound more like the negative feedback from the last one, many of the levels are based around something people tend not to like in platformers, such as upside down controls, ice physics, auto-scrollers, etc. occasionally the rogue level generation will spit some areas out that take a really long time to get through with no challenge.

but that all contributes to the magic of it. the art and the music and everything is so off the wall surreal and the level design almost feels like a parody of video games and it builds to this overwhelming, eerie atmosphere. ONLY Celery Emblem could have made this game and i think it's really special.

be warned though: it is going to be really difficult for people who aren't super comfortable with platformers. there are very few checkpoints and each of them demands several minutes of flawless play, and sometimes on death the level will regenerate so you can't even redo the stuff you've already learned.

As other people have noted, this game is basically unplayable. It's buggy, the controls are unfinished and make no sense, you have to trial and error your keyboard constantly. The puzzle design is basically nonsense; one of the very first puzzles in the game is confusing to the point that I, and the only two let's players I could find on youtube, solved it on accident and left the level totally unfulfilled.

And yet... it's magical. It's so insane that only this developer could have possibly made this. The awful, awful translation, the random artistic decisions, the gameplay that seems designed to get you to stop playing, the story writing that mocks you for ever caring about it, everything comes together to this completely bizarre, absolutely unreplaceable mess. If you value seeing something you could never see anything else it might be worth it for you, too.

Seeing the other reviews on this game is really surprising. I'm not really sure how people came away from it thinking it's unwinnable or unfair or heavy RNG? This is primarily a PvP game at the moment and you really ought to be buying it for that, but the PvE (even in its pre-AI patch form) has always been consistent and winnable if you just look at what your opponent is doing and stop clicking whatever you want and being upset it doesn't work. If the game looks interesting to you definitely take a risk here, most of the bad reviews really don't know what they're talking about!

Really cute game so far, I'm enjoying the characters, the voice acting, the art (especially the colors), and the exploration is rewarding enough. Gameplay's definitely on the easy side unless I'm missing some optional solutions for things, but not every game needs to be difficult anyway, so that was pretty nice too. Looking forward to seeing the rest of LunarLux!

You're probably here for the art, and the game's probably worth the price just for that, but I had a surprising amount of fun with the gameplay too. About an hour in you'll have an a-ha moment where the way the game is played will just click for you, and that + the simple, flash gamey progression will keep you engaged for the 3-4 hours it takes to beat the game and see all the art. It's a cute little puzzle game.

The art's what really drew me to this game and it wasn't disappointing. The progression system isn't exactly to my taste personally, (you replay the game to unlock permanent upgrades rather than having them all at the start, which makes me feel like the early runs are less meaningful) but a lot of people like that system. Either way for the price the vibe, soundtrack, and the art are totally worth it, and gameplay-wise, being able to dash through enemies to damage them also provides a fun twist to the average twin stick.

This developer accomplished a lot by themself and for $free.90free you could spend an hour a lot worse. Really cool art and some very fun gameplay ideas, and a willingness to just do something weird and unique that's been mostly gone from video games from the last decade. Hope to see them continue making stuff! Will probably be thinking about this little game for a while.

This is the kind of game where you really have to come for the atmosphere, I think. The gameplay's certainly not bad, by any means, but it's pretty average top down style shooting gameplay. The art, and the music, and the somber writing passages, though, are just what I was hoping for seeing the screenshots and trailer. If something about this art style appeals to you, know that the game's committed to it and will certainly deliver you that. I haven't finished it yet, and plan to, I just thought I'd get a positive review in cause I know how cruel steam is to games without a lot of reviews.

Edit: I did finish the game now! The enemy health pool can be a little high sometimes if you're not keeping up with weapon upgrades, but other than that, by the end the gameplay was beginning to feel like an important part of the tone and kind of won me over. The story really comes together and is worth seeing through to the end.
