Pretty sure I got this game from an old HumbleBundle choice.
I REALLY don't like this game, and should have left this review when I finished it. I will not get the new DLC.

For all it had to offer, it was pretty lackluster, and only served to stoke my ire towards half-baked gameplay. Employees are finicky at best. RC track was a chore. Your employees don't earn the same kind of bonuses or have the same speed as you would for finishing menial tasks, nor will they ever. You can max out their levels and still have them work at a snail's pace and earn significantly less cash than if you were to ever touch what they were assigned to do. Popularity is a grind and a half for level 10, for something that doesn't even feel remotely worth the effort. Money becomes nearly useless near Popularity level 9, and any of the decorations you can buy at that point in time just serve to waste whatever you have earned thus far on something that just wastes time away from gaining more progress. Thankfully you can also turn off events that create more work like the kid spray painting your building or sandstorms and it doesn't detract from getting achievements. Lots of gripes and lots of frustrations for stuff that I don't want to remember or are not worth remembering.

If you get this game for achievements, you are better off somewhere else. Got all achievements before the most recent DLC (that included more achievements, raising the count from 91 to 100) got added, and I forgot how miserable the gameplay loop was. Some people may have "fun" doing mindless menial tasks over and over, but I detest it in a gameplay format that doesn't provide a more rewarding experience for it.

I'm not one to post reviews, so please excuse me if I say something wrong or off, but this game deserves one. I highly recommend this game to those who are interested in a game that clearly has a lot of love shown by the developers and utterly bleeds through many aspects of the game. Coming from someone who usually plays games to simply achievement hunt them for 100% completion and doesn't touch them again after finishing, I am determined to finish this game with all available playable characters on all difficulties 100%, simply because this game deserves it.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS IN THE REVIEW BELOW SO BE WARNED!

From the combat system, which is pretty intuitive, to the exploration, where the game isn't overwhelming in detail and feels like a natural progression. In true metroidvania fashion, backtracking is key to grab some items you may have missed or progress further in a game, but no abilities feel utterly game breaking, rather they help you feel more powerful. I finished the game 100% with the current amount of hours in one playthrough; this includes fully exploring the map, killing every enemy, collecting all items (crafted items and items farmed from enemies included), maxing out all weapon techniques, and finishing all side quests (the rewards are kind of worth it). This was my first playthrough, which means that I used Miriam (there are 3 playable characters), and this was on Normal difficulty (there are 3 playable difficulties, Normal is available upon the first playthrough, higher difficulties unlock on finishing lower difficulty playthroughs). One thing I haven't touched on yet is the music and this game is hands down, worth it solely for that. Each song feels memorable, as each unique area has a certain theme, as do their bosses. Secret music, like Celeste's room and the Garden of Silence's piano is definitely worth it in my honest opinion!

There are some things that people may not like. Items are dropped on a percentage chance, so farming enemies is usually required as a means of grabbing items that aren't sold in the shop, or to be able to craft certain recipes or items. Alkahest is a material that helps break down crafted items into their base components, and returns base component items 1:1, so there's a silver lining. Enemies also drop abilities called Shards that add powers to your arsenal and help you reliably deal damage or affect your mobility. Upgrading their effectiveness by farming more of the Shards from the same enemies tends to get very repetitive and can burn out those who are just eager to deal a lot of damage in one go. Upgrading the Shards themselves from the crafting bench requires materials that will have to also be farmed from enemies, so cue more farming. Luck-based equipment, Shards, and food bonuses help your character be able to reliably farm these materials or money, but it still remains tedious, so be warned, and pray that RNGesus is on your side.

My gripes stem from me attempting to want to finish the game faster, but I can't help but slow down and appreciate the details that this game throws out. I love the enemy designs, none of them seem too unfair or unbalanced, and the enemy attacks are well telegraphed. Hitboxes are fair in a game like this, but I struggled with pulling off Techniques consistently. I would certainly love to see some kind of overlay that shows the inputs of my controller, like a training mode found in fighting games. I love the Easter eggs and references that the game throws your way, even with some things appearing as gag items or powers, sometimes dropped by gag enemies.

TL;DR: The game has too many positives to pass up, and the negatives can stem from attempting to be a completionist attempting to speedrun the game for achievements' sake. Take your time with this game, explore it at your own pace, and fall in love with this game as I and others present here have.

Not enough rgb on my gun to give me +15 to my aim skill, 8/10, would fall into a crippling debt over in game items again.

I didn't get the hang of it at first when I played by myself. I just messed around and put it down and forgot about it. However, a friend brought me back to the game and showed me the proper way on how to play. Now I can't stop playing. All I can think about at times is "What should I do next with my character the next time I hop back onto Stardew?" Great game, will spend many more hours on it later.
