Excellent game with very charismatic characters and excellent worldbuilding.

The start may be a little slow for those who have no patience and do not like reading too much text, but it all comes together towards the end, once the world and the characters have been built throughout all the game. Count at least more than 40 hours if you rush to finish a playthrough (that means not talking to NPCs at all, these NPCs being among the best written in all RPGs).

The fights are fast-paced and entertaining and the degree of customization is quite interesting, albeit not as complex as what you could find in other J-RPGs.

Finally, if you reach the end, I doubt you will not want to play the second one...
