After about 12 hours of gameplay (and I'm still missing 2 of the possible companions), this game is as close in spirit as you'll get to a Dragon Age Origins-ish sequel.
You can now choose your character's background, and it has about as much impact as it did in Origins.
While the combat is completely changed, the quests, world exploration, and character relationships feel much better than they did in Inquisition. This time, instead of growing your army and managing a huge organisation that can impact the world, you're back to being part of a small group of people that has to make allies where they can to face a huge threat.

Exploration is not a huge chore like in the previous game, but is set in smaller areas that are quick to get through, but large enough to have some secrets to find.

Combat is fine. Best comparison I could make is that it's a lighter version of God of War (2018), though I've only tried the Warrior class for now, so the other two could be different.

While not a lot of your past choices have an impact on this game, considering you are really far up north compared to the previous three games its not that much of a problem (though it will be if future games or content go back south and don't allow you to use those choices). Recurring characters do tend to either not talk about their past or keep things vague to make up for this issue.

I recommend this game, it's fun.

Edit 39 hours in. Still fun, though the combat does eventually get repetitive on lower difficulties. Still not seeing all the issues it's supposed to have in the writing or story though.

It's fine. Characters are fun, and interactions with the world does have its charms. But the combat is a chore, exploration is excruciatingly slow and your choices don't really have much impact on the world (or at least they are not noticeable while you play).
Not recommending it since I tried playing it like 8 times before I got hooked enough to finish it.

There's a pretty fun game beneath the frame rate issues, but it really need a patch. Avoid the bike as much as possible if your don't want your FPS to tank. Plays okay on the Deck on Low settings.

Super fun game that you can mindlessly play while watching videos or listening to podcasts. Perfect fit for the Steam Deck as well. Strongly recommended
