Hunt: Showdown represents the best a shooter has to offer. The fights are intense and the gunplay is satisfying. Nothing feels better than defeating an enemy team of hunters while your heart pounds at unheathy speeds.

Couple that with amazing graphics and superb sound design, you can't go wrong. The amount of variety the game offers in its loadouts means that any one can find a way the play that suits them the best.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 Specific:

The update to the new CryEngine version brings a lot of needed upgrades to keep the game fresh. The new map is a masterpiece of design that is built to give players of all kinds a fighting chance if they're willing to use it to their advantage. It's stunning in its visual design and theres so much happening that you really do feel like you're in the hills of Colorado.

The biggest complaint I have seen about this update is the UI. It leaves A LOT to be desired. You often are slid around parts of the menu you didn't intend to visit, there are a lot of redundancies that can get you feeling lost, and its overall too big for someone playing on PC. It feels like the current Call of Duty HQ UI but with less care taken to ensure its a smooth experience. That being said, once you figure it out, its easy to get around its quirks.

If the UI outside of gameplay, which is largely unchanged, is the only issue then I have no problems fully recommending Hunt: Showdown 1896 to anyone who wants a fun, scary, and tactical shooter experience.

I cant recommend this game while the servers are in their current state. Unfortuantely, the game is currently too popular for the developer to handle, leading to instability with progression, matchmaking, and the ability to log in. Once it is resolved I will amend my review.

Deliver Us The Moon provides a simple yet engaging story about a disaster on a Moon colony. You follow a linear path, solve simple environmental puzzles, and uncover the story of what happened. Along the way you'll be greeted with impressive set pieces that fully capture the feeling of helplessness in space.

High recommended for anyone looking for a good SciFi game that doesnt try to be something its not.

Fantastic VR shooter that makes use of what makes VR a unique platform from having to open cans of soda to increase health/shield, climbing on any surface, and manually reloading your weapons.

Don't let the small player count on Steam charts worry you because this game supports cross-platform play with Oculus/Meta players.I have no issues finding matches and most people are pretty fun

Graphically its not the most impressive, but in what it lacks in graphical fidelity it makes up in a stylized game that's incredibly fun to play.

Content-wise there isn't much to do other than play VR and is where most of the players are at, but even within the game there are no side objectives or other ways to interact with the game world to change things up, something I hope they work on in the future to mirror other BR titles such as Apex or Fortnite. Additionally, the game map isn't too big or too small and features a diverse number of areas to loot and shoot in. The newest addition Metropolis looks great with an 80's neon vibe which is a blast to fight in.

Conclusion: While some shooters try to put themselves into the realism bucket, Population: One fully embraces what BR was made for which is fun, frantic, and very physical.

8/10 highly recommended

Easily one of the best VR games around with a few QoL Issues

Good
  • Shooting is satisfying and each weapon has its own recoil and feel.
  • Enemies are a bit slow to compensate for a VR playstyle, but ignoring them will cause you to quickly get swarmed
  • Bigger enemies/bosses will break your teams formation and cause you to work together and changes the pace
  • There a decent amount of upgrades to earn through gameplay
  • Good weapon variety
  • Challenge really ramps up on harder difficulties
  • Cool 80's-ish retro aesthetic with the Arcade machines

Could use some work
  • Shotgun feels a bit wonky since you have to pump a new shell and you have to really pump far and can feel disjointed
  • Using manual reload feels a bit unintuitive (will elaborate down below) and not worth the extra in-game currency for upgrades/power-ups
  • Personal complaint but some sections are a bit dark and looking around gets kind of disorienting
  • There is a small reward for exploration, but not enough to make it worth the time

Manual Reload

Manual reloading requires these steps and it gets really complicated especially when you're trying to not die in the harder difficulties:
  • Ejecting your magazine with a button
  • Grabbing another from your chest which never feels properly aligned
  • Putting another magazine in
  • Chamber another bullet - this has caused me to smack my controller together on more than one occasion and doesnt feel right like in other games like Pavlov

Using the quick reload option simply requires you to eject the magazine and put the gun near your chest/ammo pouch which is less finicky.

I'm not sure what the fix for this is, and it's not the biggest issue because you always have the option for the easier reload method, but its a huge part of the game and while I want the extra harvest (upgrade currency) its not worth getting my cheeks clapped.

Conclusion: Great experience that's worth everyone's time if they like co-op Left 4 Dead style shooters. Cross-play is the icing on the cake. If the Devs continues to update QoL issues and produce content, it could be one of the greatest VR games.

Fun but needs a UI/UX/Content pass

After playing a bunch of Vampire Survivor (lets be real this is the same type of game) I enjoy this a lot but it needs a few passes to be a great little experience. I'll just list a few things to keep this from being long.

  • Can be hard to see what happening because the skills are too busy
  • Some of the UI, like the XP bar, go past the boundaries and needs to be fixed
  • No real sense of spell progression. Vamprie Survivor will unlock additional spells/combos depending on how you play
  • Some level upgrades are either doubled up too often, or will give you upgrades for spells you do not have
  • The RNG system for getting boss upgrades is weird and doesnt feel rewarding

    Conclusion
Lets keep it 💯- this game either copies or takes a lot of inspiration from Vampire Savior, and thats ok. Copy the stuff that makes the game addicting, and throw in more variety and clean up the bugs and this game is a 100% recommend.

For price, content, and launch state I'd give it a 7/10 - fun format and experience. Tighten it up and we're looking at a winner.

Simple experience that doesn't require much strategy or thinking.

Most of the gameplay devolves to "use a card and grab the next one that pops up so I can finish what i'm working on". If the dev can tune up the strategy a bit more then this can become a relaxing, but interesting game.

For 5 bucks you cant go wrong.
