This game is like the bad relationship you know you should get out of but can't, because it still feels comforting even though it's changed for the worse and there's realistically no coming back from it. 0/10
Do better, Blizzard.

Let me try to give this game a review that actually helps give some insight and some issues I have found while playing it for a few hours.

First of all, I do love this game a lot - I am a big horse enthusiast, always have been, so I am always on the lookout for a good game. I am aware this game is still in EA, I have taken that into consideration when making this review.

The pros:
- The horses feel very natural and the animation and movements are very nicely animated so far, although they look a bit stiff sometimes - this will improve in the future and for EA it looks pretty good!

- The environment is expansive and feels full of life; the Rivershine Ranch itself is nicely structured and has a lot of space and open areas that give the whole space a certain balance + you can see your horses in your stable and on the pasture which gives it that extra bit of life as you can watch them roam around

- The main NPCs feel alive and have their own personalities/ routines etc. - their art is beautifully made and there is a lot of diversity; The sparseness of townies is explained with the story so the emtpiness has a reason and isn't just due to laziness/ an oversight from the developers ( cough cough, Horse Tales )

- The story so far is very nice and helps the player get settled on their farm in the beginning especially; you learn how to do all important things and the flow of quests also seems natural and not forced in any way

- The variety of horse coats is very good and the fact that you can see the stats/ potential before buying is also very convenient

- The farming in this game is very simple and easy to understand which makes it a fun little activity to do on the side, it is not over-complicated

While the points I have are mostly positive, I do have some negative points:

- The character creation is not as expansive as you would hope, especially in terms of clothing or face and hair customization - there is barely any traditionally male hairstyles to choose from unfortunately

- The races are fun to do a few times but after a while it just becomes tedious to always do the same races to earn money. I admit there are a lot of races you can unlock but once you’ve unlocked the one that gives the most, you will obviously choose that instead of the more fun ones/ choosing others to have some variety. I do think this can be fixed by having some sort of rotating “race of the day” that gives the more money once you’ve unlocked all other races.

- While the horses look pretty good, the human models almost look dull and lifeless in comparison - they almost have an uncanny valley look to them

- The flexibility trait of horses almost always gets triggered when you move in any direction, turning down mouse sensitivity does not help unfortunately. It definitely needs some refinement

- The mouse control feels weird, moving the mouse slowly makes the camera move faster than when I move my mouse quickly - it’s annoying that there is no setting for this but I am sure there will be one later on in development

All in all, the game is definitely worth getting as the few negative points are far outshined by the positives and the fun you have while playing it. It is cozy and a bit grind-y, perfect for people that want a pretty relaxing game with a bit of a challenge.
I have not encountered any actual game-breaking bugs as of right now and is very enjoyable to play, even in this EA state.
I’d give this game, in it’s current state, a 7/10.
I am very excited to see what the future holds for this game, I know it will be great because the foundation they have already created is very promising and already a lot of fun. I definitely recommend it to any horse enthusiast!

Lots of potential thrown away. The wrong things were prioritized here. It feels empty and dead - breeding doesn't even touch on what you're learning from the vets in this game, townies and story are lack-luster and the wild horses you cant even inspect before getting them.
Overall, pretty disappointing experience. Do not recommend unless they change a LOT.

This is the first review I have ever left on a game, unfortunately it has to be a negative one. But for good reason.
VRChat essentially killed off more than half of its community to implement EAC for no valid reason at all. It has been proven time and time again that EAC does not , in fact, stop malicious modders/ hackers etc. They took away the ability to use mods when many people relied on them in terms of accessibility, improving performance and just an overall better experience within the game. What they achieved by this is that they punished friendly modders that simply wanted to improve their game and experience without giving them anything to replace those aids that modders had to provide because of VRC's inability to add features to the game in a timely manner.
Over all, it's sad to see that despite the community giving them good and legitimate reasons, VRC still implemented it. I myself will not be playing VRChat for the forseeable future and switching over to ChilloutVR, which I urge you to do as well.

With that said, I hope VRC rethinks their decision to implement EAC and instead opts for a different solution.
