Received an additional refund by mistake by Path of Exile, and here's what happened.

Get your popcorn and coke kids, this is gonna be a juicy one #takingonefortheteam.

As I made a purchase back in February and accidentally paid twice for it, I asked for a refund. It happened that I received the refund twice (one refunded on PayPal, and one a month later on Steam it seems). I had no idea I got refunded twice, even if I did, would it be my fault?

Instead of contacting me to inform me about the issue, they locked my Path of Exile account and initiated a charge back without my consent (of course you want your money back, and I'm more than happy to give it back; just give your customers a heads up and give them a short brief about the situation). What this means is, is that they force you out of your account, and you get a strike towards Steam as potential fraud: you won't be able to buy games/DLC's/or anything else on Steam, nor do you have access to play their game. To paint you a picture: Path of Exile failed by sending a refund twice by accident, and the customer (in this case me) who isn't aware of any of this is being penalized, punished, and forced to actually take and spent their time on this issue on their demand. Not just within their environment, but my Steam account is locked as well. Imagine this was you, or imagine this happening to a person that barely plays games on their Steam account #surprisesurprise.

This is what you normally would do as a company, right? Treat your customers like trash. But this isn't even the worse part of the story, when I reached out to them, they initiated their response with a finger pointing at me. Excuse me? I didn't even know and I'm contacting you to solve -your failure-. They called me a thief and a fraudulent person that should be banned if I didn't do what they demanded me to do. Flabbergasted. Then I realized that it was just a power-play.

So, who cares about an account for a game that is free to play? Just make a new account, right? So, to make the "thief and fraud" a little bit more believable: I've spent around 1500+ hours through steam, and 400-600 on their original engine over the course of 8-9 years on this game. I can't even remember when I started playing Path of Exile, but I surely waited some time before deciding to support the development of this game. To this day, I injected around $1K USD with the ideology of "contributing to a better game" or keeping the game free.

If it wasn't for Steam I probably still wouldn't be notified. But hey, when I noticed that my Steam account had an alert (and apparently was locked as well (to protect me (I so so so appreciate you Steam employees)), I contacted Steam, PayPal, and Path of Exile to figure out what happened and how I could solve this.

When you invest a decent amount of money on a game, the least that you can expect is that support treats you with some dignity or at least as a human when you contact them to resolve a dispute of a mere 17,60 EUR. You do not want to be told that you are a thief and a fraudulent person "and we take this verrryyyy seriously" bull. I am truly amazed how a company can fail at customer support so badly.

This approach and treatment blew me away.
