Monitor chronology:
Cheap-o Benq FP731 Typical 17" 1280x1024 2000s european office TN LCD, still loved it. Does 75hz.
IBM p275 Despite all the CRT hype... crap for CS:GO and modern games, too dim and blurry, even though it was in new condition when I got it (even adjusted the sharpness dial inside the monitor and played around with all OSD settings) and is a high-end trinitron... went to 170hz at 1024x768, which was cool.
Benq XL2411Z Good for gaming, colors and contrast are crap though. (except on low hz, yes they change with that) Only supports 144hz via DVI.
Alienware AW2518Hf Awesome in and out of games, it just doesn't have a large range of OSD adjustments like Benq... even the pitiful 3 stage Black EQ is bugged: it oversharpens the whole image when used.
ACER XF270HA Frameskipping on older firmwares, otherwise OK. Has copycat (less well tuned) Benq-like OSD features.
Alienware AW2518H Felt laggier than the Freesync (Hf) sibling, and had more washed colors. Black EQ worked correctly though.
LG 27GK750F-B Very laggy with smeary motion (with and without BFI). Avoid.
BenQ XL2740 YEAH baby! All the features u need. Awesome scaler, stand, profile switcher... nice colors.
ACER XB271HU Nice, but not for me... res too high for tryharding on native res.
ACER XG270HUA Less nice (75hz) and also 1440p, even less for me.
Benq XL2720Z Same as XL2411Z, except colors don't suck, stand is better and u have a profile (s) switch. :)
BenQ XL2540 Same "YEAH baby!" in a smaller size. <3 Will probably only upgrade to another Benq. I love the OSD features, responsiveness, stand and customizable profiles which one can switch between with dedicated buttons.
BenQ XL2546K Has an even more ergonomic stand, and slightly clearer motion compared to my 2540, HOWEVER, by switching to a new scaler to get a fancier looking OSD with profile sharing and stuff... they ruined display scaling. It looks blurrier than GPU scaling, which is just sad. This used to be one of Benq's strong suits. Went back to my 2540. Btw, because of the new scaler, everything from the sharpness filter, to the saturation feature looks different.
ASUS VG279QM I have yet again found out, that 27" is too big for me.
