You either get filtered in the first mission or live long enough to BE the filter.

Welcome back, Raven.

Play with friends. Unless you hardcore. Then solo everything. Either way works. :D

"If in doubt, flat out" - Colin McRae
"If you're not scared, you're not going fast enough," - Ken Block

By far the most gritty, intense rally experience delivered by CodeMasters, DiRT Rally is an unforgiving, yet satisfying experience for anyone looking for a challenging racing game. Of course, the weight physics of the game leaves something to be desired, but nevertheless, this is a solid recommendation from me.

P.S. Being fast doesn't land you wins in DiRT Rally; Staying fast does.

I spent more time modding this game than actually playing it. That in itself is a different kind of stress and satisfaction. Now my Skyrim don't look like Skyrim no more. (Also I clocked more than 600 hours in both the XBox360 version and the PlayStation 3 version combined, making Skyrim the first game I ever owned across three platforms.)

As a game, I thoroughly enjoyed what the (base) game has to offer. I only have the base game so I will write my review based on that.

PROS :

+ Fast paced, arcade racing

+ Enormous map to travel around (If you love driving around for hours on end for no apparent reason like me)

+ Off-road racing

+ Graphics are pretty good. Dirt, snow, rain effects are present on top of car scratching and crumpling due to impacts.

+ Day/night cycle

HOWEVER the many things preventing me from recommending this game to anyone are as follows :

CONS :

- Multiplayer PvP is not balanced (i.e. Going into a Perf spec race with a Lvl 680 BMW M3 facing off against a Lamborghini and two other hyper cars beyond Lvl 1000)

- Physics engine is not good at handling bumps and jumps, making most Dirt and Raid spec related events frustrating.

- Wild Run advertisment EVERYWHERE. Main menu, Wild Run. Look for crew, Wild Run. Summit events on map, Wild Run. Don't want it, don't need it, don't intend to get it. (Get a hint from Dying Light developers, please.)

- Locked to Uplay. The bloody Uplay.

- Free roam doesn't allow me to race other players at will. (Even GTA:O has this feature and it isn't even a racing game.)

- The game instantly forces you back into the main menu when you lose connection to the servers, even when you're playing a Solo mission. I was doing a 100KM faction race and got forced back to the main menu when I just passed the 55KM mark. COME ON. At least put me on a temporary offline mode and reattempt connection while I continue my race you lazy twa ts.

And the last point which angers me the most :

- - - EULA Restrictions. I am currently studying in Sarawak, Malaysia and a friend helped me buy this game while it was on discount, but I can't even access the game in my home in Brunei just 2 hours drive away from where I am? Asia region my as s.

TL;DR = Great game, even greater flaws. If you would really like to try this game I'd suggest getting it on a 60% or above sale.

***STORY MODE***

Definitely a should-have for fans of the MG series as it gaps quite a few missing links within the story in between games. Recommend using a controller when playing.

Pros :

- Good story line
- Amazing photorealistic graphics
- Guns are highly customisable, and many variations of base guns
- Controls are easily learnt (for a controller, M+K users may be different)
- Game physics are pretty good (bullet drop physics), sometimes wacky (sliding down a hill with the cardboard box, wow)

Mixed :

- Buddy system is a little unbalanced, some buddies more useful than others
- Multiple resource system for upgrades
- MB Coin system (basically real money --> currency) for further upgrades to FOB which affects maximum staff skill level

Cons :

- Reflex system makes the game too easy (for us longtime MG players)
- FOB attack/retaliate system (affects staff skill lvl overall if staff gets captured or killed) is super annoying
- Vehicle controls are disastrous
- Main missions structured as one-by-one objectives instead of a long, interlinear story gameplay like in MGS3

***METAL GEAR ONLINE***

Started playing MGO few days ago when it launched. My thoughts as follows.

Pros :

- Controls work the same as the main game
- Various customisable options for characters' appearances
- Quite balanced gameplay online so far in my games

Cons :

- No dedicated server. as soon as player host leaves in the middle of a game, all points/score for that map will be rendered null, and the game gets restarted from the beginning.
- Bullet hits register late allowing an enemy to kill you as well
- No on-the-fly text chat system

All I ask for now are dedicated MGO servers and text cha system and online would be so much better.

3 words to describe this game.

Intense. As. F*ck.

Great gunplay mechanics, great mods, great community on the co-op servers. Just stay away from PvP servers if you're around Asia, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will bring you down even when you're in their team.

Gameplay - 9/10 (Only lacking bullet drop mechanics, sadly)

Audio - 10/10 (Totally love the contextual voice command system)

Graphics - 8/10 (Not quite up to today's standards but gameplay and model replacement mods compensate greatly for this)

User Interface - 8/10 (Took a little time to get used to but easy to use once I did)

Content - 7/10 (Hoping to get more guns for the sniper class like SVD or RSASS)

Overall - 8.4/10

**This rating comes from the PvE aspect of the game. PvP is not taken into consideration.

I've played a lot of FPS games, from story-driven single player ones to full-on epic multiplayer ones, and this game is one of the rare ones which I would come back to play again and again, for the kick if nothing else. Albeit being released in 2009, it still feels satisfying whenever a bunch of guys manage to kill the Patriarch on the hardest difficulties (and it's not even that easy either), not to mention the 'force' of the gun recoils with every shot (more apparent on single shot guns). I can't wait for Killing Floor 2 now.
