Clive feels emblematic of the direction for Tekken 8, in a negative way. More explosions, more particle effects, more enormous buttons that fill up the whole screen, just sound and fury. Michael Bay explosions for people with iPad Baby Brain. Tekken has always had fantastical elements and nonsense, but Clive feels like the developers telling us they have no intention of toning anything down. At least he doesn't have the stupid Noctis haircut.

Clearly y'all put a lot of love and care into the character, and you love the FF source material, but this is not the source material I wanted at all and knowing that I'm going to have to look at all this FF stuff makes me not want to play Tekken.

I loved previous versions of Heihachi, but the redesigned moveset here is great. He's got clear weaknesses (linearity, high-commitment offense, mostly bad lows), but his strengths are so interesting and so fun. He's changed dramatically, but still feels like "ah yeah, this is the same guy". Distinct identity from the other Mishima characters and a lot of fun to play. Honestly, really nice work here.

This is one of my favorite beat-em-ups ever! I've loved TMNT and beat-em-ups and TMNT beat-em-ups for many decades (I vividly remember the 1989 arcade game at the skating rink when I was a kid), but this one is just a joy. I like the slightly more complex movesets, I like all the different characters, the pixel art is so charming, the music is fantastic (they got a Ghostface/Raekwon track!! *W hand sign*) ... there's so much to mess with in here.

It might be on the easier side, but that's fine. My kid and I love playing this together, perhaps more than Streets of Rage 4 even.

Plus frames into stance mixup, colorful visual barf all over the screen, more yelling sword guys after we had to look at Noctis for six years, ~~aggression~~, Tekken Coins, stages not included in the season pass, collabs with ~~Brands~~. Y'all are trying to convince me that I don't like Tekken.

Why are you making me look at another yelling magic sword guy. Why do you think Tekken players have iPad Baby Brain and cannot be entertained without the screen filling with flashing lights so that we know we're seeing something ~~epic~~.

I have gotten on airplanes to play Tekken competitively. Tekken 8 makes me deeply, viscerally depressed. Am I going to have to learn Virtua Fighter? ...

This game *was* charming and fun, but the publisher fired the entire dev team and then released actually for-real broken DLC with game-breaking glitches. And cancelled the story mode. Don't support this publisher.

This game is great! The characters all play really differently, the enemy design is interesting, "normal" mode was a bit of a challenge at first but I'm getting better at it as I play. Uncomplicated -- if you like ninjas and robots (and you wanna play as a robot ninja) to do some morally uncomplicated violence where you topple an evil dystopian regime (...) -- get in there.

Music is great, moves feel really satisfying to do. If you think you would like this kind of thing, you probably will.

Woolie and Reggie played this game on "Get Into Fighting Games"! Can't be that bad, right?

... it's extremely jank. You might be looking for something relaxing, a little bit of fighting and some hot ladies. But this game is just poorly made.

Moving around the menus (??) feels bad. Like, when you're using an arcade stick to navigate the menus, if your character is on screen, they move too? That is bizarre and an unforced error. Moving around in the character creator feels bad too -- they can't be bothered to make the menus hold still while you're sliding the sliders. It's very odd.

Once you get into gameplay, movement feels awful, just moving your character around. When you dash and then hold forward, your character stops? This is very surprising. Special move inputs are super jank as well; I'm not saying "special moves are too hard" (I love hard execution -- I'm a Tekken player) ... it just doesn't read the inputs like you would expect.

I don't often return games on Steam, but I got this at a really low price on sale and refunded it within a half hour. Just like... not fun.
