Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is the PC port of the popular Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game Dark Souls; a spiritual sequel to PlayStation 3 exclusive Demon's Souls.

The first thing you may notice (or hear) about this game is that it is difficult. Don't let this put you off though because if you take the time to learn enemy patterns and weapon movesets the game can become a lot easier. Your first time through the game will be infurating. You will want to break things but don't give up! Finishing this game without a walkthrough will be one of your most satisfying achievements.

Speaking of achievements; this game features several achievements (GFWL only though, no Steam achievements) including an achievement named "The Dark Soul" which is achieved when you get every other achievement.

The game also has a lovely aesthetic; especially the area Ash Lake (Seriously. It's gorgeous).

This version of Dark Souls also comes with the Artorias of the Abyss DLC which takes you back in time to meet Artorias; one of Gwyn's 4 knights however this meeting isn't quite what you expect...

Overall if you can take the time to practice and you don't mind spending a lot of time dying this game is very enjoyable and very highly recommended.

Also this game has the best multiplayer features I've seen in a game. What are they? Well, that's something you're going to have to learn on your own.

Prepare to die! (A lot).

My favourite Final Fantasy game.

The soundtrack for this game is phenominal. The final boss is especially fantastic music-wise; definitely worth the wait. Nobuo really outdid himself.

The textures have been improved somewhat and it looks a lot nicer now; however the terrain in the overworld looks a bit dodgy but that's only if you take time to focus on the textures.

I've heard a lot of things about the FMVs not looking as nice as the original PlayStation version's but I really didn't notice this.

Another fantastic feature is the addition of the PlayStation Pocket minigame Chocobo World; which many westerners never got to play since the PocketStation wasn't released outside of Japan.

The only complaints I have about this re-release is that a) The midi versions of the music really isn't great so you may want to download Roses and Wine to fix that (it replaces the audio with the original PlayStation version's music) and b) The game's description isn't correct. Apart from that though, this is a fantastic version of Final Fantasy VIII.

And for all you achievement nuts (such as myself) the game features 45 achivements ranging from easy (Get Quezacotl and Shiva) to infuriating (Contrived Finish and Omega Destroyed - a secret achievement). There are also some boring achievements such as Top Level Boko (Get Boko to level 100 on the Chocobo World minigame), 1,000 kills and 10,000 kills (another secret achievement).

To all you Final Fantasy VIII fans who are still unsure I have two words: Triple Triad.

If you can get past the minor texture issues on the overworld and having to replace the audio this is definitely worth picking up.
