A great cinematic experience, the audiovisual design is top notch and the story is quite thought provoking. Unfortunately it still has to be a game and the combat and puzzles are quite basic. If you'd compare the combat to dark souls it would be the equivalent of the first tutorial boss. That said if this is what you're looking for you won't be dissapointed.

A new gold standard for roguelikes, I cannot find anything bad in this game. Intense combat, great storyline, dope soundtrack, everything is great.

The game takes influence from all the previous Supergiant titles and combines it into their most intensive title to date. And only for 20 euros, this is a steal.

A very weird game, seamlessly switching between being a sidescroller, a bullet hell, and (usually) a third person action game with RPG elements. A story told in a very original way, constantly leaving the player to wonder where it could go next. This is a unique experience, great stuff.

Probably my favourite 4X game I've played. It stays compelling throughout most of the game, many different ways to end a scenario, very fluid yet interesting combat, and factions that play entirely different from each other. The endless setting itself is one that deserves mention too, it's dark and mysterious and the story gets told mostly through anecdotes you find throughout the game.

Dark Souls 2 gets overshadowed by both the predecessor and the successor being better games, but that doesn't make this game bad. It's still one of the better third person action/rpg's around and a must have for any souls fan.

This is a great combination of "souls" mechanics and shooter mechanics, something I haven't really seen before. The animations and hitboxes are very tight, weapons have impact, bosses are hard but satisfying. On top of that it has a great coop mode too! Just about the only Con in this game is that it isn't very long and some areas are slightly repetitive but with gameplay as good as this, that doesn't bother me. Highly recommended.

As an old fan I really wanted to like this game and there is definitely fun to be had, but I have come to the conclusion that I just don't like it all that much.

A problem I always end up having with 4X games is how incredibly tedious they can become in the mid to late game, a problem also evident in the earlier titles of the series. I was hoping this might have finally been fixed but unfortunately this is not the case. The sheer amount of battles that you have to fight, ground you have to cover, often the scenario is won long, long before it actually ends. I just can't sit through a single map anymore of this game. This is a problem specific to myself though, if you're not like me and this doesn't bother you much go for it.

Everyone knows what this game is by now. A true CRPG with highly tactical turn based combat and rich storytelling.

And yet my two playthroughs of the game both ended in act 3 in pure frustration.

There's a lot this game does very well. The world is full of nooks and crannies to discover, filled with sidequests and lore and loot. Companions have their own questlines and opinions which interacts with how you solve every situation, and they have their own romance storylines too. Most encounters are potentially deadly and all need to be approached from the right angle with the right approach, and it can get VERY hard sometimes.

And a lot of what makes it good, also ends up making the game frustating. There is so much loot a big part of the game turns into inventory management hell, even when I take a break and come back to the game my inventory is such a mess I have no idea what I was going for anymore.

The combat while interesting at first quickly becomes a repetitive slog where all situations devolve into a floor is lava battle where most complexity is in managing terrain effects. The first game had this issue as well and they introduced an armor system to try to solve this, and this ends up being my biggest complaint. I hate the armor system, it throws out any point of making a balanced party (on the higher difficulties, anyway), it's all about focusing on one damage type and quickly knocking off the respective defensive layer so the enemies become susceptible to the completely overpowered crowd control and terrain effects. It's a fantasy game ffs, I want to hit stuff with my sword, yet all the combat is about is getting the right angle and abusing the terrain.

In the end, do I recommend this game? Maybe, it was certainly good enough to waste 160 hours in (according to my steam timer, no idea how much of that is actual gameplay), yet I never got to a satisfying end in my playthroughs. I certainly prefer Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder: Kingmaker if you are looking for a CRPG experience.

It's Dark Souls. This version is a pretty minor upgrade over the original, unless you are a mouse/keyboard player like me since this version has proper support for it including m/kb prompts (which even DS3 doesn't have yet!). Highly recommended in this case.
