Early Access Review
While ARK is a decent title and a rare example of these games actively continued to be worked on, I cannot in good faith recommend it at this price point. There's still serious bugs present in the game that have remained the same or worsened over development, and the recent pricing of both the DLC (For a game still under development, mind) and the recent doubling of the price means that this is objectively punishing those who elected to wait for the game to be finished before pulling the trigger.

It's a shame given that the overal premise is awesome, and given the use of the Unreal Engine 4, the graphics are the usual standard of awesome. Even the developers have remained somewhat active in communicating with the players over the changes and updates.

It's a shame this is now paired with price gouging and dishonesty. No retailer I know of would refuse to stock a game due to a price discrepency. Nor would this "excuse" raising the price by double it's previous amount.

I would seriously recommend researching what you are getting with your £50 before pulling the trigger on this. That, or wait for a serious price reduction.

Outside of the time shown, I've also played in two betas. The closed beta at the start of November, and the last open beta a week or so ago.

While I can certainly argee with the comments about the game not being worth the full price tag, it's a decent enough title to just blow an hour or two on. Either to attempt the runs left by the developers, or to just unwind and chill out or go as mental as you want.

The controls are a little confusing if you're coming off titles like the SSX series, and the G-Force system makes the later trick based challenges a pain given the seemingly random nature of it, but outside of that and a bit of practise, you can pull off some pretty epic jumps.

EDIT. As with the release of Alaska, they've now changed the flip/spin system so that you can "preload" the rotation before the jump. This is a mild improvement, but still is a little tricky as you still have full control of turning.

The only real down sides I can think of right now, outside of the price, is that I don't agree with the hard limit of four players to a lobby, if the lobby system is even working. I spot the odd player or two spawning somewhere near me, and then they either vanish, or spend most of the ten minutes I can see them 10k meters away. Add to that and the need to physically behind them to invite to the party, and I seriously question why Ubisoft did it this way. There also seems to be a few issues with inviting friends, but I cannot comment on that due to no-one else playing this.

Overall, I'd wait for a price drop or more content before pulling the trigger. It's rare enough for games like this to come out on the platform, and Steep certainly is worth trying, outside of a few questionable design choices.

I mean, currently your only other option is SNOW. And I don't think I need to explain the differences there, do I?

Predictable storyline, lackluster gunplay and the levels all play out in the same way. First section you're chasing the boss through the level while defending scanning points, second you're destorying key points or defending against 3-5 waves of targets, then a final run through to that boss character.

The overal design and the soundtrack are ok, but in the end at this price for a 3-5 hour campaign I cannot recommend it.

Basically a SciFi B-movie take on the Magicka system. Get 2 to 4 players on the same screen, have no friendly fire protection, then have practically every action capable of killing your own team-mates.

The enemy types are different enough from each over to make things interesting, and there's a novel take on the campaign map screen that does hammer home the feeling of being in an "elite" army "fighting against hostile invaders" that "threaten" Super Earth.

And yes, the Starship Troopers style mockery of the action is funny, if it does get a little grating after a while. There's only so many times you can snicker at deploying a "Truth Trainsmitter" and knowing full well it's a mind control device.

As for the weapons, there's a fairly good spread of the standard fair. The DLCs does add to the pool with some intriging takes on the base loudout, but certainly not as "game-changing" as the forums are currently alight with. But I digress.

Multplayer runs fairly well. There's a tech in game that can bump you up the matchmaking list if you badly need another Helldiver to deploy to the squad, but finding the time to do this mid-mission when you're better off focusing on actually staying alive is a tad tricky. Aside from that, Arrowhead's love of not allowing players to hide behind turning off friendly fire brings it's usual bundle of backstabbing, accidental or otherwise, as well as all the wonderful ways to troll the party. For those that might be concerned by this, there's a rep system which will allow the more "helpful" players to find eachother, as well as a kick system. Of course, there's also the option to limit the Lobby to Friends only or to a Private session as well

Solo play isn't that ideal, but it is possible. Basically you're automatically respawn upon death, but only once at the start, then another chance is added upon completing an objective. It's certainly less enjoyable than dodging your team-mates fire as well as your own turrets and the enemy, but it's there for those that want it.

Overal I've been enjoying my time with it. The only real change I'd like to see is more of a warning when dropping large vehicles down to avoid "accidentally" dropping another pod on top of it. Granted that might remove some of the fun, but it's a tad disheartening when a badly placed ammo drop is timed beautifully to explode that APC you were putting your hopes on.

That, or I guess we can Get Gud, right? d=)

There isn't that much to this game, but what there is rocks fairly hard. Duck Game could be described as the bastard love child between Worms, WarioWare and an old 2d freeware shooter called Soldat. It's chaotic, it's daft to all hell and it's a brainless blast 'em up that's a joy to get wrecked at time and time again.

And there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Quack Button.

The storyline may be a bit lacking, and it's gameplay may get a little samey after a while, but overall I enjoyed my time with this.

Besides, how else are you going to repay someone killing you by helping them rise through the ranks, then murdering his friends and bodyguards horribly before taking your dear sweet time burning, poisoning and then finally stabbing him multiple times as an example to your dominated followers?

I think this game turned me evil. Just a tad.

A pretty good remake of the classic game. The only real change I would like to see is the return of having more than one squad and base. Other than that, it's a decent enough title.

It's lying. There's no Chivalry to be found here. Well, unless you call giving a dirty peasant a Maul makeover the height of good manners I guess.

Brillantly good fun, especually with decent players. And the FFA mode is crazy.

Plus you can tell people that their malformed skull isn't worthy to be your pispot. XD

First off, I personally don't think the port is bad. Granted they could of done better, but seeing as this is technically the first game From Soft have ported, they could of done a whole lot worse.

Loved it on the 360, and I love it here. And with the fan produced "DSfix" mod, it's only going to get better. Grab the PC version, or wait for the DLC or the re-release for the console versions. Either way, stop hiding behind "accessable" games and try something with a real challenge behind it.
