Great game and even better game release. This is how it's done; other AAA companies, take note! Very decent quality of game overall at release, with very few bugs, and the bugs that do exist are not game stoppers. I did have a few crashes at the start that seemed related to me maxxing out the render scale, once I set it back to 75% it was fine.

Here's how Starfield compares to other titles:

No Man's Sky: Starfield is more realistic overall, has more detailed POIs, bigger worlds, smaller universe, less copy-paste plant & animals, more varied animal behavior, better environment & planet diversity, better game mechanics (not even a contest with inventory, resource collection, and gunplay), very different spaceflight experience, WAY BETTER SHIP CUSTOMIZATION, and the icing on the cake, a fun and engaging story and characters, which is all very par for the course with a Bethesda game. I like it better than NMS for the realism and depth and planet diversity.

Elite Dangerous: Starfield is less realistic overall but not by much, is a smaller universe, similar on-world experience but this title lets you land on civilized planets so, that's a huge win, plus you can walk around your ship, which you can't do in ED as far as I know. There's more direction with the quests in Starfield but at the same time, you're free to go and explore on your own. I have no idea if inter-system trading is a thing in Starfield but, let's be honest, that's a lame game mechanic. You definitely can sell your loot from spacing Spacers (pirates) and that comes with great rewards usually. If I'm in a more casual mood I think I'll chose Starfield over ED.

Star Citizen: Starfield exists, in a more-or-less finished state, and it cost me nothing beyond the $100 initially for early access to build MY OWN CUSTOM SHIP FROM HUNDREDS OF PART OPTIONS. So yeah, this should go without saying, Starfield is better than Scam Citizen.

Overall, it's a great game. Is it the greatest? No. I wish the spaceflight was more in our hands, and that the planets had a bit more scanable features to them (there's lots of life, just not all of it can be scanned). The flashlight is annoyingly dim & small, the brightness settings are hidden, and the menus feel laggy. But this is not enough to stop me from playing, and the near-bugless state of this game before release is amazing from a AAA company these days, so I'm confident that my money was well-spent.

There are better games that are still under development. This game is unbalanced and a bit lacking with regards to features and things to do in the end-game. You can of course challenge yourself more by trying a harder start, but aside from downloading some mods to add content, it's really not worth it. Maybe the sale price if it's under $8. But the devs have abandoned this game and it's not re-playable very much.

Do you have what it takes to help 3 survivors crash-land on a harsh planetary surface, with only antelope and berries to subsist on, while fending off angry, manhunting rabbits, and dodging space debris which maaaaaaaaaaaaay or may not occasionally randomly come down right on top of your perfect colonist, leaving you with the pyromaniac and gourmand drifter, and the psychotic wimp who has no tolerance for alcohol but still has an addiction, before sending an onslaught of befriended pugs to join your fledgling colony before you've established a rigorous food production line, eating you out of the little wooden shack you're trying to get a good night's sleep in but CAN'T because someone forgot to make little rooms for each of the colonists? Well then this game is for you!!!

If THAT doesn't appeal to you, don't forget that eating without a table is one of the 8 deadly sins.

(But no seriously, this game is great, and it's mod-ability is like a 420/10; you could write functioning mods while high on smokeleaf and experiencing a -5 mood debuf from darkness as you work tirelessly to prevent your colonists from succumbing to the n-th heatwave this season and gosh darn it you forgot to research air conditioners because you just installed a mod which splits that from electricity 5 hours ago and wow, is it really 3am already? Damn, this is a good game!)

Very challenging, yet very fun! Best way to learn how you think and discover your weaknesses when it comes to strategy!
