Mediocre but enjoyable if you don't take it seriously. Killstealing is a real problem in this game.

I only played this game for the achievements though

Still the same low-quality BF game since last year.

Lots of boss and dungeon rehashing, also lots of pointless loot.

But also FromSoft's best game.

You can collect little guys to redeem for Rings or Speed upgrades. Problem is that each one has a max of 99 upgrades and Sonic Team really thought it would be funny to grant a level up one at a time... An alternative would be to have a redeemable points be value for the player to allocate all at once.

Sonic Team hasn't figured out have to make a configurable game engine. Whole objects (textures too of course..) will pop-in within something like 5 meter. Insane, especially for a platformer.

Fishing minigame is just as tedious, I walked in without 30 fishing coins and it takes about 20+ seconds to go through one round of the most mindless fishing game I've played. Getting those lore pages from fishing will take so much of your time..

There's an exceedingly amount of Sonic jank this time around, comparable to Sonic 06 or Adventure.

Rail hopping animations don't have a nice follow through animation and end abruptly. If you hop off a rail Sonic will glide through the air an an invisible rail lmao.

Setting Bounce Height to max and full boosting off terrain will showcase some physics on the same level as a middle schooler's Unity project. Terrain collision jank and other unrefined physics will still occur with lower settings.

The later two of five islands reuse stuff from the first one. 4th island is just a 20 minute linear repaste of the first. 5th island uses a new map with the same biome theme. So when Sega mentioned there would be five huge islands to explore they actually meant three! LMAO

It doesn't help that you can see the 4th outside the invisible walls during your time on the 1st. Nor does it help that the image files for the 4th and 5th list them as "World 1" just like the 1st.

So yes, yet another Sonic game is blatantly rushed.

One more gripe...

If the maps were more like Mario Odyssey sure, with platforming integrated into the terrain. Or even all downtown cities could've worked better too

Frontiers maps are a bunch of landscapes with random rails and platforms jarringly thrown in. Not even with any lore explanation.

All in all.... it's still fun.

Edit: Refunded

Didn't like it enough that I felt it was worth the current price tag. Hardcore Sonic fans will eat this ♥♥♥♥ up though.

Review V2

Floating rails and platforms
- On-rails
- Forced camera
- Forced 2D
- Token collecting I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about doing for the literal 500th time and I'd rather just afk macro loop farm

Ouranos Island literally upped the grind by 100x like there was a paywall I had to overcome.

Maps I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about
- Three maps pretty much have the same theme
Kronos and Rhea are literally the same map. Ouranos is split from them. 3/5 islands are the same

Cyberspace levels have different physics
- Drifting levels aren't even built correctly accounting to Sonic's physics

It's a crime that S Rank 1-2 was the only challenge (and enjoyable) one to get

Downgraded graphics so that the game could run on Switch
- Aggressive pop-in on all platform

Fishing mini-game grindier than F2P gachas
- 32*4=128 runs of mind-numbingly slow fishing to 100% it all, noooo thanks!

Level ups one at a time and Lv99 for each upgrade
- Grindy like a F2P gacha

Jank as ♥♥♥♥ boss battles besides the final one

Jank as ♥♥♥♥ terrain climbing and physics interactions

Sleeper story
- Forced game references
- Forced loss of Chaos emeralds every island
- Only meat is the beginning and towards the end
- ^ I literally don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about each of the three ghost characters' sad feelings about the Chao history

*Overall unpolished*
Music and most of the CyberSpace levels are the only real merit

^ Unleashed (all of it) and Generations were better. This game reeks of piss poor management and rushed development more than Forces

Recenze předběžného přístupu
♥♥♥♥♥♥ Camera was enough of a deterrent to make me stop playing although I see a huge open map I would've wanted to explore when I press M.

Taxi got stuck mid-job and I couldn't even fix it without cancelling it.

Interact with any moving car on the road and the passengers will disappear when you teleport inside...

Easily DJMAX's best non-Extension DLC bar none.

Almost all maps fully charted Easy-SC, great songs, amazing Theme & Gear Skin which also comes with a combo counter and is a first for song DLCs. The cosmetics are definitely my favourite in the whole game.

There's 2 or 3 songs that don't have keysounds but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Extension I & II > Muse Dash > Technicka DLC bundle > Chunithm > else

A real generic game

Even tried and made an endgame character to try out an activity and my dislike for the game has not changed.

The combos flow well for the style of the game, better than Blade Strangers and Umineko I guess.

Neutral is finicky probably because the game has several different mechanics. It's different but I'm sure I'll get used to it overtime:

* Press forward as you're getting hit to evade (A parry, also not too sure as explained below)
* Press forward while blocking to dash, evade or something (No clue how this works
* Able to dash through someone and it also evades and I guess clashes with some opponent's stuff like their own dash
* To add onto the previous point there’s three dash attacks, one for each button and they have some kind of armor property

The game does not have a tutorial of ANY KIND and everything is inside an in-game glossary. It's overly designed and there's too many pages so it's hard to take in and retain information.

I honestly cannot tell you 100% how the different character modes or the game’s system mechanics work, even the game can't explain everything..[i.imgur.com] Found out that the Genei Jin (Yun) mode applies to all modes and not just Quick.

I'm a hands-on person so I won't be able to remember all the mechanics easily, doesn't help that the glossary's presentation is a POS and is too many pages.. THE COMMAND LIST(!!!)[i.imgur.com] of all things is locked behind this glossary. Yes special moves are homogenized but they could extend the list with command normals and system mechanics.

I can remember +R's or other game's mechanics that don't have an extensive tutorial but there's many different things going on in Omina.

There isn't even a combo trial mode, embarrassing.

Not even the macros in the controller settings tell you what they do..

There's no Instant Rematch in Local, no round animation skipping at any point, max resolution is 1080p, no Alt-F4ing.

Even for the lower than MSRP base price on top of the discount I can't recommend it right now. I'm just surprised that it has controller hotplugging unlike BBTAG. Command Lists are only found in the glossary... WHY

Edit: Apparently there is a parry type for Quick and Hard, respectively an evade one and a stun/plus advantage one.

Gameplay is fine but very jank mostly because of combos dropping due to teching out or characters hitting the ground when you wouldn't expect. I can’t tell you the amount of times I went into Genei Jin mode expecting to do something cool and just have my combo dropped. Apparently wall bounces can be teched out of for some reason.

The game package however is full of issues.

Edit 2: Waaaay too many clashes to take this game seriously

Also whats up with the random assortment of 3D animated characters?

Half the roster looks like action figures (or straight up ♥♥♥♥) and the other half you can tell Ludiosity put all their effort to make them look nice. Physics feel great but the underdeveloped characters have animations that do not feel satisfying whatsoever and models that do not look great. If you really want an example compare Danny Phantom with Patrick.

I'm of the opinion that the sound effects are good enough and the absence of voice acting is not an issue. Music could probably get irritating after a while but I certainly enjoyed some of the tracks.

For some reason the character select screen has omitted character's names... yep. Why does the move list show names but not CSS? Speaking of move list it's in its own area as part of the Extras menu and not in CSS where it makes sense. You shouldn't have to go to the main menu -> Extras to look at the move list of the character you want to pick.

Melty Blood Type Lumina, a fighting game that also has a $50 price tag has more content (also polish and quality) than what is found here. The only modes in this game are Arcade, Local/Online Vs. and some Soccer-type mode. Very lacking.

Online lobbies are a miss for several reasons:

* I literally did not know until I edited my profile that there were regional lobbies, Canada lobby had about 10 people at the time while the US lobbies were brimming with people.

* Ranked is only matchmaking, you are not able to sit in a lobby and pick someone or wait for a challenger.

* Public lobbies have no chat whatsoever and you are forced to make games inside of them. There's no player rotation at all.

* Public lobby games can set a max amount of players but for some reason you are forced to wait for all the slots to fill up

* The rollback netcode implementation is not great.. except for those really close, 50ms or so games.

Because of the negatives listed in this review I cannot recommend this game but I will surely keep it as part of my list of local PvP games.
