DLC is overpriced for the most part, but the base game is fantastic. Pair with the Divide et Impera mod for extra mintiness.

To this day this is still one of the greatest first person shooters ever made.

The core combat mechanics are neither innovative, nor particularly interesting, and become quite formulaic once you figure out how to defeat each enemy type (of which there are about 5). The combat system follows a very Arkham-esque formula, but with little variety and none of the charm. Executions come in the form of quicktime events, which do look good, but get incredibly tedious.

Despite this, I found the game to be fairly enjoyable. Some segments have you commanding legionarries in testudo formation from the front line, which was interesting even if incredibly easy.

I felt that the story was surprisingly good, as we see a soldier of Rome climb through the ranks of the Roman military across several years. The game is quite short though, and it took me only 5 hours to complete on my first playthrough (normal difficulty).

Graphically, this game is possibly the best looking game currently available. The cinematography during cinematics, the lighting during gameplay and just the general look and feel of the game is astounding.

I do recommend this game, but not with particular enthusiasm and it definitely wouldnt be my first thought when asked what to recommend someone.

If you are a fan of Roman history, combat games and this game is on sale then check it out, but I wouldn't recommend this game at full price.

Beautiful graphics, amazing soundtrack, and a gripping story. On top of that it has extremely satisfying platforming mechanics, an interesting world to explore and very responsive controls. A very well made game in almost every aspect.

This took me a little under 7 hours to complete the first time, but thats not going for 100% completion. That would probably take another few hours.

Downsides:
- Very frustrating at times
- A little short for a single-player-only game (but it is only £15)
- The weird save system takes a little getting used to

Seems like a game I could play a few times and still enjoy very much

Shorter than Danny DeVito but packs as much punch as Arnold Schwarznegger - worth getting if its discounted but the full price is a bit steep for the amount of content it has
