This game simultaneously blends in gunplay which is above average (and honestly better than most of the industry standard COD/Battlefield type fps game) and absolutely breathtaking environments, character design, and worldbuilding and crams it in a package which exists to exploit your dopamine receptors for money while telling a relatively simple story with childishly simple themes in the most asinine, convoluted way possible through dialogue writing which is the worst that I've seen since the English dub of Ace Combat 5. I really want to like this game and I even want to play it on a primal level, but the more rational side of me knows to ignore this game at all costs.

Pros:
-Free* to play game (or at least free to try, we'll get back to that)
-Weapon variety and customization is pretty good
-Gunplay is above average compared to the typical AAA shooter
-Superb environmental design, character design, sound design, and weapon design. Music is top notch, though not the best from the developer.
-Movement is better than a typical FPS

Cons:
-Content, even pretaining to core gameplay such as subclasses, is locked behind paywalls via the expansions. The free version of the game is essentially a demo.
-Story campaigns are also locked behind paywalls, along with other content pertaining to them. Relates to the issue stated above.
-The way the story is delivered is terrible, with characters that we don't care about with dialogue that is uninteresting at best and terrible at worst constantly dumping exposition about the world in an extremely convoluted way, with no real depth to the characters or story as far as I can see (think a worse version of the Star Wars prequels)
-The core story in itself is extremely simple and has pretty much no depth. Everything *surrounding* the core is interesting, but is often not adequately elaborated on. A lack of any in game codex makes this issue significantly worse.
-The gunplay is definitely not as good as other shooters. Even disregarding works like ULTRAKILL, you'd get much more for your money from something like Titanfall 2 or even DOOM (2016) than you'd get out of Destiny 2 if all you care about is fast and satisfying shooting and movement mechanics.
-Skinner box game design, but it's an MMO so that's a given.
-Relies more upon the promise of new content to make the game better than actually making a better experience
-Almost impossible for new players to get into the story and lore unless they use external sources.
-Sunsets story content/singleplayer content!!

overall, I cannot recommend this game in good faith. If you are drawn to this game because of its presentation, you'd have a better time listening to the soundtrack while looking at concept art than playing the game.

Early Access Review
While in still in early access, this game is a good one regardless. It is essentially a singleplayer unix version of Battlefield, but with some amount of ragdoll physics. This means that when the bullets hit, they hit hard, sometimes causing you or your enemy to fall to the ground. This game is also very very modifyable, with anything from maps to skins to guns to vehicles being able to be changed via the workshop. I'm interested in the future conquest mode. Overall, good game. 7/10
