This was a good game at release but SEGA refuses to add fixes for modern Windows operating systems.

Essential stability and performance fixes for all issues:

- Use this DLL to prevent crashing on startup for some high core count CPUs (https://github.com/adrian-lebioda/SpaceMarineCoreFix)
- Set SpaceMarine.exe affinity to core 0 and 1
- Configure SpaceMarine.exe to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode, disable full-screen optimisations and run as an administrator
- Put -window in the games launch options, enable v-sync in the main menu and play in 16:9 aspect-ratio with a resolution of 1920x1080

This is a good game but the PC port sucks. It needs better KBM support (doable), widescreen support, unlocked FPS and cloud saves.

The mods save it however.

Here's a non-exhaustive list of mods that's required to "remaster" the game at a basic level (you can still play in online mode with these fixes):

- Blue Acolyte
- DS2LightingEngine SotFS
- Dark Souls 2 modern HD UI
- DS2 FIX KEYBOARD WITH UI ICONS
- Dark Souls 2 Texture Renewal Project

You also need Flawless Widescreen for ultrawide displays.

Good game but the PC port is bad and requires mods to fix it.

Great game but the remaster was lazily done and has issues.

♥♥♥♥ menu system, optimisation and graphics.

Interesting items shouldn't be MTX or battle-pass purchases, literally P2W and no, I won't redeem those free DEI items.

Also, whilst the game is better than it was at release, don't play this game solo.

Over-rated crap, there's plenty of other games deserving of attention. The game has already seen a decline of 20% of its playerbase as of this review and for good reasons.

Woke (body type selector instead of a gender selector, subtle woke text in-game, interracial / same-sex marriage and a company that's plagued with DEI doctrine), lacks content, bugs everywhere which is bad for a released product, plays like the vanilla Stingray engine with poor customisation and generic UX, unstable builds are published and the gameplay is deliberately strung out to get you to buy the battle pass.

Lack of servers, bad multiplayer implementation, poor controls, matches end too quickly, doesn't support 32:9 aspect ratio, some sounds are incorrectly pitched, gamebreaking bugs still exist from the originals, team AI is brain dead, cost and size of the game isn't justified compared to the originals.

Just buy Squad and subscribe to the Galactic Contention mod on the workshop.

The basic premise of this game is good, although it's missing a few things that prevent it from truly being called a masterpiece (especially for the price, even if the non-Steam version is cheaper), namely:

  • Widescreen support (for 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios and widescreen resolutions)
  • Better Keyboard and Mouse controls
  • Ability to shoot in precise angles and jump down ledges vertically
  • More unique enemies for each level
  • Polish to fix issues like alpha power dropping on ledges that the player can't access
  • More quality of life options in the menus
  • More sound bites from Alex Jones and others (including improvements to existing ones)
  • Background music improvements (to prevent repetitiveness)
  • Difficulty modifiers (for replayability)
  • Steam leaderboards integration (to compete with others)
  • Steam trading cards (revenue generation)
  • Steam points shop items (to redpill people)
  • Steam achievements (to bring in a wider crowd)
  • More lore-accurate levels to redpill the masses (paid DLC)
  • Steam workshop / Mod.io support and game SDK (for user-made levels and mods)
  • Game OST (paid DLC)

Get this game at a discount if you like the idea of a modern Metal Slug.

Side note: If the developers ever make a sequel to this game and it's not just a one-time cash grab, please consider having it be a retro FPS in the style of BLOOD or Duke Nukem 3D.
