Unironically the BEST way to settle disagreements.

Can't decide which game you're going to play with your friends? Straftat.

Don't know which rugpull crypto scam to invest in? Straftat.

Base game is FREE and already plenty of fun. DLC adds way more quirky weapons and maps and I AM ALL IN.

Only CON is that the breakcore isn't in the game.

Early impressions!
+ KAFU, generally nice selection even from the base game selection so far.
+ Game itself has strong aesthetic style
- UX is kinda bad tho, having a loading screen pop up every so often, alongside hard cuts to menu BGM and SFX
- Lack of customization for the lane itself (Having both inner lanes the same color is kinda messed up.)
- Offset adjustment screen doesn't have early/late indicator for some reason

For a supposed non-Early Access title, it does come off as a bit janky which makes this more of a mixed recommendation instead of a recommend. For the price though, you can do much worse. Though, the sale prices for more polished rhythm games ain't that far from this one.

As of now, you should probably only get it if you like KAFU and friends I guess.

Probably not the best value for your money if you're after actual gameplay-relevant content, but the art and VFX included in this DLC are great. The items/relics added are for the most part side-grades to already existing ones.

The more fun additions are the new lucy cards, since the ones that come with this DLC make her feel more like an active participant in combat rather than just some draw/mana engine (although there are also quirky draw/mana cards in this one too)

Buy it for the skins, stay for the free replacement to Accelerate.

Most of the reviews seem botted. I don't understand why. Underneath the shoddy translations is the bones of a good take on the Vampire Surivior-like genre. It's like that meets Crypt of the Necrodancer.

Music also adapts to whoever you add to the squad. (Recruit drum girl = BGM will now have drums) I think that's cool.

They just really need to fix the translations. Many of the terminology is kinda unclear? And they sometimes use different names when referring to the same characters..

All in all, looking forward to the full version with some interest.

A refreshing entry in the 40K franchise that doesn't focus on space marines.
(I'm not too interested in them.) [I'm still not that into them]

I am also not very knowledgeable on 40K, as I just recently got into it.
UPDATE: I have gotten a bit more into it as I have played a lot more Darktide, SM2, and RT since this review.

DISCLAIMER (As of Dec. 25, 2023)
Currently riddled with bugs especially towards the end. (Act 4 and beyond). Although it would have been ideal to fix these issues before release, devs seem to be patching them at a relatively fast pace. Everything up to Act 3 seems to have minor issues at worst. (~60hrs)

I also have not finished the game. I am at the end of Act 4, waiting on a patch that would fix some of my side quests before I proceed with beating it.

UPDATE (As of Dec. 1, 2024)
I have beaten the game on a new run with the Void Shadows DLC on Hard difficulty. As such, I will be including some updates to the notes that I have stated before.

PROS AND CONS
+ You can literally not know anything about the franchise and some dialogue choices can reflect that. The characters will be surprised at you lacking what is supposedly common knowledge.

+ Immersive storytelling in the already strong setting of the 40K Universe. Game got me hooked, despite its buggy state on launch.

+ Fun combat that blends mechanics from XCOM and classic CRPGs. With some caveats, the combat mechanics in this game are generally enjoyable.

+ Companions have meaningful depth and character. And almost all of them are really likable, which is surprising because I expected to hate a few of them just from their looks and initial impressions.

+ Fair variety of enemies to encounter, though I certainly hope we will get to see more in upcoming content.

+ Very flexible difficulty settings that let you tailor-fit your game experience to your own comfort. (Although the game seems to be balanced around Daring/Core difficulty)

+ Co-Op seems to be implemented more smoothly somehow than most other games I've played. Plus, it adds extra enjoyment in a session when you ""accidentally"" commit some friendly fire.

+ Cassia and Kibellah

o Combat is a bit more balanced than on release. There are only a handful of combat encounters in the game as of now that may feel too difficult at the point you encounter them. For the most part though, you can get by without an 'optimal' build and team comp.

o On a similar note, Character Building will likely be a hit or miss depending on what you prefer. Rogue Trader basically offers you a lot of choices when leveling up your characters, and this could easily be overwhelming. It doesn't help that a lot of the values are calculated using formulas that may come off as intimidating to some.

o Space combat in general is a bit of a mixed bag but gets way better in time. In your first few ship battles, you are going to take hits and possibly even lose before you get your turn. It doesn't get really engaging until you level up enough to get skills to play around with.

o Reputation / Trading is really difficult to progress. There are some systems that can help you; but without grinding, you probably won't even get close to maxing more than one faction. UPDATE: They have increased some reputation rewards here and there, and you can probably max out most of them without having to grind at all.

o Alignment seems like an afterthought sometimes. First, you get so little alignment points for most related dialogue options. Second, characters never seem to acknowledge your alignment for the most part. The most it does is provide some gameplay bonuses and let you select some dialogue options exclusive to a certain level of alignment. UPDATE: They have increased the alignment points you get from dialogue choices as well as add new ones. However, you probably won't ever reach the max of one alignment if you deviate from your main one every so often.

UPDATE FOR THIS SECTION

The following listed cons for the game have since been fixed. You may argue for some of them to still be somewhat present in the game, but they are largely inconsequential during my recent playthrough.

- BUGS. Owlcat should have probably released this under Early Access..

- I had entire companion quest chains ruined because of things not triggering or getting marked as complete.

- Some talents do not work as described.

- Sometimes damage previews are wonky as hell. Game will show you that your attack will hit, but it will completely whiff. This issue is more common with AoE attacks.

ACTUAL CONS

- Minor bugs still exist (such as the character portraits just disappearing randomly)

- Game isn't clear on some mechanics. Some skills can be used both before and after an extra turn. Some skills cannot.

- Balance issues: Some encounters used to be borderline impossible to beat without using some strategy that involves megabuffing one party member and having them delete the entire enemy lineup before they can act. Because if you don't, they will. This has been toned down a bit since release, but it still exists in the game in a few encounters.

- Certain quests were really disappointing, to be more specific Argenta companion quest , which really felt out of place with how good most of the writing is. I suspect that this was a product of a rush job.

CONCLUSIONS
After almost a year, I can confidently say that WH40K: Rogue Trader is my favorite CRPG so far. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, RT takes steps to ensure that you get introduced to the world of 40K without being too intimidating. Engaging story, well-written characters, stellar voice-acting (only slight is not having more of it in the game), satisfying combat and more set in one of the most fascinating settings.

Early Access Review
Massively underrated roguelike with a lot of replayability. If you're a fan of games like StS or AtO, you're sure to like this one.

Surprisingly fun game that doesn't overstay its welcome. Just don't get into it expecting Persona because it is most definitely not that. (and that's not a bad thing!)

What is it then?
Eternights is a (comparatively) short action JRPG that puts you in the shoes of an MC that finds himself at the center of an apocalypse. With only a limited time until the world ends, you must fight monsters, bond with your best friend + some newfound companions, and retrieve a mysterious artifact that will save the world.

The good
  • Voice acting is unexpectedly great and definitely strengthens the characters.
  • Dialogue can be a bit cringe sometimes, but the game at least knows when to use its crude humor and when to take things seriously.
  • The characters grow to have some depth to them despite at first coming off as very generic tropes that you've seen before.
  • There are rare moments where the combat actually feels engaging and fun.
  • Some of the boss enemies are actually well designed but falls a bit short due to my problems with combat in general. (More on that in the next section)
  • Light spoiler for the game's ending: Extra ending sequence for your chosen romance option is kinda neat.

The bad
  • Combat doesn't feel as tight as other similar games. The timing on the i-frame is way too unforgiving, especially given that the enemies don't exactly telegraph most of their moves. (I played the game on Expert; but from what I can gather, this still applies to even the easiest difficulty.)
  • Enemy design is fairly forgettable. It also doesn't help that the enemies don't fit with the level they're currently in. You're gonna see riot shield boys everywhere.
  • The last two points combined make most generic combat encounters feel tedious and repetitive the further you get in the game.
  • Puzzles are sometimes thematically out of left field (gets better as the game goes on).
  • Most of the minigames are terrible. (does not get better as the game goes on). I'm looking at you, DDR minigame.

The iffy
  • The actual main story is serviceable, but it is definitely being carried by the main cast.
  • Voice lines of support characters in battle have like only 2 variations. Sometimes the same one plays many times in a row.
  • UI/UX design feels kinda generic. It is very reminiscent of some other JRPGs/VNs but without its own unique style/flair. Even superficial things like the font could have been chosen better.
  • For the most part, individual tracks from the OST are decent; but sometimes the tone of the scene drastically changes due to the sudden shift in the choice of music.
  • The lack of audiovisual feedback in some aspects of the game (such as menu navigation and combat) makes the game feel unpolished/unfinished.

Verdict
Eternights is a game that clearly draws from its inspirations. It tries to be a mish-mash of Persona, Soulsborne, classic JRPGs, and dating sims. Some of them don't quite land though, especially in its combat aspects. Regardless, it is still a very fun time. At least, I personally had more fun with it than Starfield as of writing. I'd say it is worth the full asking price. Though if you're on the fence, then it doesn't hurt to wait for a sale. If you've read this far enough, you'll probably find something in this game to like.

This feels like a fresh take on Monster Hunter, with hunts focused on being short and fast-paced, even more so than the already quick hunts in Rise/Sunbreak. Unlike in the MH franchise, the combat system is less realistic and weighty. On the other hand, the weapons in this game are really flashy and over-the-top. Almost every weapon you pick up here will make you feel like the main character.

HOWEVER, as of writing performance issues continue to drag this game down. Unless you're prepared to waste time gambling on how well this game runs on your system, I strongly advise potential buyers to hold off until these issues get fixed. This is not a minor issue. I'm running on a RTX 3070 and Wild Hearts frequently dips into the single-digit frames and maxes out my CPU during monster encounters.

TL;DR: Great game. Would be worth the full price if it actually ran well.
