Early Access Review
I have been following Soldak Entertainment ever since I saw a box copy of Depths of Peril at Fry's Electronics (RIP) back when I was a teenager. I keep coming back year after year to his games because I find myself resonating with what I see as some of the core design philosophies (I could be reading into it, since I'm not active in the community). And the core design philosophy I see is emergent meaningful gameplay.

What makes games fun are the stories that we experience as we go through the gameplay loop. Quest after quest pile up, usually at the same time, with all of them having some degree of time sensitivity. Do I save my surly naga who name I choose to read as Thimble, pushing tiles beyond my comfort zone to save my companion, or do I deal with zombie pixie uprising that will surely assail me if I leave the infestation alone too long? Those choices feel meaningful in the course of a game session and will have impact on my game while I play. Its that slog that builds steam until I'm checking off quests until I defeat that nemesis.

I thought this was a vet simulator for pig husbandry. Since I received it as a gift, I guess I'll give it a go.

A solid simulation game, with vast amounts of depths, the height of which may go above Mt. Tai

This game is like Shogun: Total War, but with bigger beards. If hair or gothic themes are not your thing, maybe consider playing something else.

Modding is hard. I'm pretty dumb and steamworks makes it easier to install a ton of mods that don't play well together. 11/10 Troubleshooting simulator.

I'd recommend a "Kinda" for my thumbs up. Buy it on sale. As you can see I've played about 5 hours and I've been able to complete one of the ending. It wasn't the true ending, but I can't say I like the mechanics enough to go back and get the other four endings.

This game is fun and frustrating. I wish there was a more active online community because I feel like the village management aspect is better attended to by group of people working in cooperation (like a village).

I love the series, but the controls are a little frustrating. I decided to pull out the ole' controler and spent about 6 minutes figuring out how to get the pause button to actually pause and not just change the map. Once I got past that, the pwnfest began. Seems like they didn't update any graphics, but the chance to play this on the PC makes it more than worth it.
