TL;DR in true Gru fashion for below - Match gear > Click "attack" button on never ending enemies that keep growing stronger > Die without purpose > Die without purpose???.

Sadly, can't recommend. Game starts off great - it's interesting, easy on the eyes, has beautiful music and genuinely makes you wonder what you're getting into. And it keeps you wondering too! Which is the problem that just gets worse after you discover the solution.

You select a character and crawl through a dungeon by clicking an attack button, maybe using a magical tome, and stacking gear. This game is basically a gear matching game - find the gear you want, get multiple copies of that gear, combine it, and equip it to your character making them absurdly strong as you delve.

Eventually, you will climb down some floors and think, this is fun and addictive! And you'll climb down some more floors and think, okay, surely, there's a boss coming up soon. And you'll progress some more floors and so on and so forth until you die. Then you'll look at some guides and forum posts, while wondering how close you were to making any real progress and find that there is no real progress, or story, or "Big Bad Evil Guy". Just delve down, match multiple copies of your gear forever, and click that attack button on max speed against monsters that endlessly grow stronger UNTIL YOU DIE.

That's it! Definitely not worth $9.99. I'd say I've played quality $3 - $5 games that were better, like Vampire Survivors and such. Big thumbs down.

Best survivors-like I've tried so far

Kind of a blend of Diablo II meets Torchlight II

What a flop... Season 2 handled so poorly.

4 characters launching up to WINTER 2025 and 2 of them aren't even Street Fighter...

Early Access Review
There are a lot of great reviews so I will try to keep this short-ish.

I have many years of experience with roguelikes and roguelites. Tiny Rogues goes above and beyond at its price point. I'm not sure I'd pay much more but I've certainly enjoyed my money's worth. The graphics are not great but they have an enjoyable 8-bit feel to them. The music also gives me retro techno arcade vibes.

This game has tons of content which I think is the best positive to the game. The content can seem daunting at first but you're able to enjoy the introductory section of the game without needing to know more than the basic controls. Learning the numerous keywords can come later. For context, I'm about 18 hours in at this point and still learning keywords and have over a dozen wins in the game.

I think the real shining star of this game's numerous content features are the easter eggs and the unlocks. You will likely see some light references to other pop culture media somewhere in this title. And there are tons of unlocks in this game that keeps you coming back for more. Unlocks feels like a feature that's heavily missing in today's generation of gaming by Tiny Rogues hits this itch just right. There's some challenge to some unlocks, a bit of luck to other unlocks, and they seem to keep coming out of nowhere as you progress through the game. Each of the unlocks will change the way you play future games as well and since this is a roguelike, your progress from other runs will not carry over into future runs.

The biggest cons for me so far are the lack of in game saves and busy battle rooms. Runs in this game are not terribly long but can last upwards of an hour or so. I wish there was a way I could back out of the game and come back to it without losing all my progress. Going off the last point, sometimes there are a bunch of bright flashing projectiles on the screen and it can get difficult to keep track of your character to avoid getting hit.

That's about it for me! Guess I lied about the short-ish review! I definitely recommend picking up a copy if you enjoy top down action games and roguelikes.

Have to take my 73 achievements and give this a big thumbs down. OW2 and the developer just aren't what they used to be.

Tried this game during the free trial period and I have to say I loved it! When it worked.

As a disclaimer, my ping on most games ranges from 20s-80s and I'm using an admittedly older Nvidia i7 processor. Even for my PC I've been able to play Cyberpunk 2077 with Vortex mods on mid settings without issue but this game... takes my words away.

I installed this game on Epic first, booted it up, had tons of issues with freezing and stuttering. Character select was a mostly blank screen with some background noise until I went from being frozen to being teleported to some part of a map that was selected by a teammate. Maps took several minutes to load. While loading, textures looked horrible and disconnects were frequent despite even the game showing a low ping.

Once the map loaded, the game was phenomenal! Gameplay consists of a fairly unique rock, paper, scissors melee combat with some ranged weapons accessible around the map. It's your typical battle royale but mostly more melee focused and characters have abilities to use. While enjoying the game I came across new and exciting areas! And then parts of the map had to reload again and my game would begin to freeze. Combat wasn't possible as people wailed on me until my game finished loading, the stuttering stopped, and I could defend myself. Then more intermittent freezing for another minute or so and smooth sailing.

Still managed to win 2 out of 3 games. From what I was able to play, this game has so much potential. But I could never recommend this game due to how poorly optimized it is.

The gameplay is fairly unique and innovative for a battle royale. Now if only I could play the game.
