Seriously a fantastic game. The best thing about this game to me is that the community is very active and the developers are always listening. Things are taken into serious consideration and at times, you get a really awesome little surprise in your updates! I have a few Early games on Steam and to be honest, a lot of the time they are deeply saddening or upsetting because the devs just sort of vanish so many times. If it isn't that then they clearly aren't bothering to actually listen to suggestions and bug problems that are found.

I'm changing my review from a "wait for it to get better/No" to a big, Yes.

The crafting book has been updated with a lot of love for the player, while the world itself has become extremely harsh, challenging and openly hates you with a morbid passion.

Since the last update I have not lived an entire day. Literally, it says DAYS SURVIVED 0 on the big, bad dead-red screen. I couldn't be happier.

The world changes everytime I load a new game, I can see cannibals stalking me even when no one is there. You aren't the only ones they are hunting, it's two tribes fighting one another as well as trying to eat you. Once inside the Cave of Defeat, you're really in for a superior ride in terror. I cannot remember the last time I had to paud a game to tell myself, "IT IS JUST A GAME!" I was so terrified I was sure I couldn't keep playing the first night. The mutant fetuses staring at me as my worthless little lighter finally flickered on, made things very clear it was a whole new ballgame. The 'frozen' cannibals inside the caves just made sure I knew how fragile and helpless I really was. No more waking up to a flare gun and big, new axe. Death was literally sitting around almost every corner. I am amazed at the sudden depth and terror this game has tossed at me. And I love it.

This game is still very much in alpha but what was added in this last patch makes you realize once and for all that you don't walk into this as the hunter, but rather the helpless hunted.

Walking around half strangling a live rabbit you can release with no harm done to it whenever you want made me feel a little better. I haven't lived long enough to make a damn cage for one though.

I'm still waiting for the "play ball" update. Seriously, let me play catch with one of the cannibals for like 10 seconds.

What I love:

+Exp. is something you can really USE. It doesn't just sit there gathering dust while you stroke your e-peen. You can use the exp. to upgrade different things like being better at stealth, getting hungry & thirsty less, better knowledge of crafting, survival skills, etc.

+There are working cars you can hop in and actually drive, the horn works and at night you can turn the lights on. Flashlights work too.

+You can plant and farm, you need medicine to survive because of radiation. Most food and drink is moldy or going bad.

+You can craft things like doors and canteens to gather water over and over again. You need to stay fed and hydrated as well as maintaining your health and keeping your radiation levels low.

+You can exp from killing, crafting and so on.

+You can go hunting when you get to a comfortable base. I have a little farm I am slowly fortifying.

+There is multiplayer capability.

+The devs are constantly updating this game with new stuff, almost every single day.
============================================================
What I hate:

-Multiplayer is too annoying at the moment (for MY tastes)

-I really hate how the characters look. They are just too blocky for my tastes.

-Crafting sometimes is far TOO complicated with little to show for it. IE: Chests. It takes forever to make one with wood and you end up with something that locks to all other players & only has four spaces. Bit of a let down in a world where your items WILL vanish when you log out/server is stopped.

-Can't just drink from a stream/river. It makes no sense to me.

-Not enough seeds in the world.

-Crafting is VERY annoying. You have to figure out everything bit by bit. (Alt+Tab in a world that does not stop is a bad idea)

-Only two kinds of wildlife (as of this review, may change?)

-Even with perks and upgrades, I think you get hungry/thirsty way too fast. Radiation goes up too fast for my tastes as well.

-No way to really customize your game. (Not enough for me)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really love this game because it has so many things in it I wish other zombie survival games had, like cars and working flash lights (torches).

I play with my roommates and we can get lost in this thing for hours. I will admit that at first the graphics and silly looking mobs are very off putting. But let yourself sit in the world for awhile, go exploring and start killing and hunting. You will see what I mean about the game play with this and being able to look passed the look of the game. I had to admit it has grown on me, I don't think I really want to even see it changed or "upgraded" at this point. I would like it is the characters were a lot less blocky though.

Crafting in this game is a little too complicated at times, especially for making a 4 slot chest. On multiplayer these chests are automatically locked. You don't get a choice about it. If you are on a player killer server I can understand that. But playing with my roommates I know I don't have to worry about that but I have to go and grab something each and every time they need something from one of them because of this. I really would like that to change.

I would also like to see multiplayer be made a lot easier for other people. Because I share a network with friends it is easy for us to get on a server together and play. It is very annoying sounding for others that don't have this immediate luxury.

I have had this game for almost 8 years now. It's not playable. I have upgraded my computer recently and saw some very promising screenshots and wanted to give it a try again, knowing how much fun it was when I had played before. Now, it crashes and I have to either Alt+F4 or turn my computer off entirely.

This game has been in alpha for ALMOST 8 YEARS and it's still messed up. This game doesn't know what it wants to do with itself, other then making money, of course. Devs should be paying people to play it at this point.

Don't bother. It's another zombie game that tries way too hard with the graphics instead of emphasizing the game-play. Go play Unturned or something instead. Dysmantel is another good one. $25 is way too much to ask for a game that will never leave Alpha and will randomly become completely unplayable.

TL;DR- It's a dated game with a lot of content and a style all it's own. Absolutely worth a try.

I've loved this game for years but had a lot of trouble really getting into it. It's a lot easier to solo for most classes now and they have made a lot of things easier like skills and such (possibly too easy honestly) but personally I think the game is still a lot of fun even with the funky looking graphics. EQII has always had a look all it's own and I have always liked it for that fact first and foremost. Any game can repeat other games (and let's face it, most MMOs do just that now) or try to wow you with lame "super awesome new combat!" gimmicks but personally I think this is a huge deal for being a free to play game. it's incredibly massive, probably too massive now with the player count. You have tons of classes and races to choose from even allowing for neutral characters that can start on either side of the coin. There are four different starting places but I feel letting go of the original ones (the two main cities for either side) rather then just upgrading the items and content; was a horribly lazy and stupid thing to do. Maybe some players were tired of it but I liked the atmosphere with those two originally way more then any of the new ones.

Personally, I love the trade skills. It isn't about buying some item to get a 100% chance of success in crafting, rather it takes time and patience often times making the crafting itself into a mini game that used to actually be lethal at higher levels. I wish they hadn't made that part vanish either.

Mounts are for everyone all the time. I really appreciate this. This honestly is a huge game and being able to get a mount from one of the new starting areas was a good idea all in all. They range from ordinary, cheap horses to flying disks, gliding rodents and leaping lizzards. Every type of fascinating mount thought of is used in the game and fits in very well with the art and style in my opinion.

And speaking of art and style, the fact that players themselves can craft items such as house furniture, cosmetic outfits and weapons is a really awesome part that I am glad they introduced. Seeing the different things people are capable of making is extraordinary and fun to me. Along with the face cam that I don't usually use but it produces more laughable results then anything. Making your character make a huge "O" face is something hilarious to me but the technology is there and it's very fun to use if you have a good enough camera.

It's not a Pay-2-Win game in my opinion, as things pretty much stay cosmetic or help with adventuring, crafting experience, etc. You are able to play this game just fine without pulling out your wallet every few seconds. I want to get a monthly sub just because I want a monthly sub, not because I feel it is needed in order to gain more access to the game or any of the content within. That is a big plus to me personally.

TL;DR It is a fun thought that is very poorly executed. You can't fly as you would imagine one could, you can only have two dragons, training takes HOURS without REAL money, no space for the hundreds and hundreds of crappy little items your bags WILL fill up with in five minutes of playing, no bank space, too many useless character stats (read the forums) Empty gameplay feeling.

I liked this game a lot and tried very hard to really understand everything about it. The problem is, a lot of the game from crafting to Dragon Training and Lairs, is extremely confusing. So confusing sometimes that I just got very frustrated and gave up eventually. I had to stop playing this on Steam because apparently the client just started screwing up very badly when started from Steam. Eventually though it was playable through Steam again so I went ahead and reinstalled, for the second time. Have to add that this time around I have to turn off Steam Overlay which makes running it from Steam pretty much useless.

Twice I was forced to give up on the game entirely because it wasn't optimized for all video cards which, before this game, I had never heard of a game having issues with once out of beta. It was something they "overlooked", according to their patch notes around the time, because in their words they were more worried about bugs in the game. I thought this was sort of ridiculous. Some bugs in the game would be rather annoying I will admit, but to not finish optimizing a game for a couple of years because of this? What type of bugs were they that were THAT much more important than letting people play the game on all video cards??

A lot of the game is very intensely focused on cash shop items and paying real money. Right from the start you have tons and tons of things filling your bags. At levels 10 & 20 you will get a few more spaces. This doesn't really help very much though, at least in my case. You have the ability to extract just about anything in the game, which I thought was very neat. From potions to equipment and even meals, you can take them apart and gain crafting items, items to upgrade equipment or if you are very lucky, even gain a recipe from the item you destroyed and learn how to make it. Again, I think this is a very neat feature. What I DIDN'T like was that all of this stuff instantly fills your bags up. You are constantly running to the bank, which is equally tiny.

The game looks good, taming dragons is fun, crafting is pretty easy to understand although very over done in my opinion with way too many white recipes for far too long. And about the taming of dragons, you can have two and you also only have two lair spaces. You have to pay real money to unlock any others. So you are stuck with being able to only capture two which I think is really lame, especially with so many other types out there.

This can also very easily be defined as a Pay2Win game. I cannot stand games like this and I find that it makes the game feel very cheap and unbalanced. You can literally just buy some huge, overpowered dragon right from the store which comes with a lot more slots than the normal dragon you will come across at lower levels, but most of the store (if not all) have NO level to them so you can literally have them as soon as you enter the game. You don't need to do anything special, just open the egg in your bag and you are instantly over powered. I didn't know this until I decided to spend some of my SC (Station Cash) left over from an older EQ2 account. The dragon I got was a huge white monster of a beast that literally let me obliterate mobs anywhere I went. That along with the billions of potions you find, I was a mini-god at lvl 6. Also, sometimes (apparently randomly according to people on the DP forums) dragons can be account bound.

The people on the server I was on (I don't know about all of them) were extremely obnoxious. Constantly getting random tells from complete strangers either asking me to buy them something from the store saying they would pay me to do so, randomly making sound effects (literally, like 'pow' 'rawr' 'roar') repeaditly or high levels sitting in the starting area covering quest NPCs with their mounts or killing everything in the first area with a high level pet for no reason. This last bit was only something that just started happening. It leads me to think end game content is either non-existant or way too easy and everyone is bored with the game.

Flying is not very fun either. You would think with a game where you can tame flying creatures, it would be more open. It is not. You follow a path (literally a road that goes through all of the zones from one quest hub to the next) and there is not much else to it. Every once in awhile a dungeon is present. Every time you start to go a little above the trees your dragon will freak out. It hits a ceiling you can't see (which is way too low) then the animation for the flying animal stops entirely. It looks like it is standing in mid air and then it will actually start to sink towards the ground. It looks like it is sitting in mid air, then falling basically. It is an extremely ugly animation that is not polished at all. When you hit mobs with physical attacks or they hit you, there is -no- sound effect. Which makes the combat feel extremely empty. Mobs will stand IN your character as you fight, often leading to an error that makes you hit other mobs near you. Basically ALL of your attacks are AoEs. This makes me feel like it is a cheap Korean MMO type of game where you are supposed to just attack things by the hundreds all the time, all at once. But in this game if you don't have that over powered store bought dragon, you WILL die.

I cannot recommend this game because I think that it leaves a lot to the player that you just do not understand well enough walking into the game. I'm not saying it needed to be another black and white slash 'em up MMO but the fact is walking into the game you are very confused and the UI is somewhat off putting. I don't know about the cash shop or pay-to-win items or anything of the sort because I couldn't get that far into the game before I just did not want to play this anymore. I am a big fan of the online D&D game. I thought this would somewhat resemble that. I was extremely wrong. It is a beautiful game but limits the players vision and view of the field. It feels like it is trying to be a top-down view like the old style games while still being a behind-the-player's back type of view which just ends up feeling clunky and unsatisfying visually. They toss our so much at you right from the start and never once stop to pace themselves. It actually ends up feeling like a hack n slash MMO where you barely need to put forth any serious effort in terms of game play. I was astounded at how easy it was to be a caster and how absolutely over powered I was without even trying.

Edit: I want to add I had played this before it was on Steam, so my hours probably look really low, I don't know how long I played on Steam. I was hoping for a different experience and I was very let down.

It was hard to get into the character, not knowing anything about the game and just being tossed into the world with barely any knowledge of ... well anything.

Character cards are ridiculous and make no sense. Allowing a person to make one character per account or card is just silly and was a big turn off at the beginning. Then suddenly I'ma horse running around attacking spiders and wolves but unable to talk to anyone and no idea what was going on. It's basically a game for older players. As in, people who have been playing it for a couple of years and have gotten to know one another rather well through the game itself. Which is fine, if you're looking for a social game. I was looking for something with more adventure. This was not that game for me.

Although it does have combat, it's tedious and slow. With numerous combat progamming issues such as slow to no response, it get boring and annoying very quickly. If you want to be with your friends from the beginning you have to make the same type of character. Unless you are one of the players who has played for some time then you're aware of how to get where and what exactly you're doing.

I was enticed by the farming, cooking, trade skill aspects only to learn that those are the main skills you pick from the beginning. While you're welcome to learn other skills or professions, if you picked cooking then cooking would be the only thing you truly excelled at which gives the game another annoyance factor for me personally.

I'm not going to say anything about the graphics because I believe that graphics do not make the game no matter how beautiful or up to date it is, if the game play is awful it is awful and god rays won't save it. t's dated to be sure but it works for what (I assume) the game is going for. After awhile I got tired of children players running around and elves with large breasts giggling constantly and decided to try something else.

It's a charming thought but all in all this game left me more confused than with the feeling of enjoying a real role playing game. If you have extensive amounts of time on your hands, do not like social interactions in the real world or are one of the few serious fans left of the game, enjoy. Otherwise, I would try something else with better, more responsive controls and doesn't rely on extreme amounts of beauty shop items in order to enjoy the "game".

Edit 7 years later: Tried logging back in but I only have 5 chances to get my "second" password correct. Went to Nexon site, reset password, worked fine, tried opening this through Steam to try again but I cannot find how to reset or even find what my "second" password is on the Nexon site or through Steam. Still big thumbs down.

TL;DR The launcher is bugged, crashes too much to update and I've decided to uninstall.

A long time ago I had a blast on this game with my husband. It was so fun just creating the character and role-playing in the city, fighting the bad guys and all that. So many looks, rewards, super powers, ways to travel, it was like really becoming a superhero.

Now I find, with a brand new PC, there's a four year old bug that kind of makes it IMPOSSIBLE to play.

The launcher just crashes. Every few minutes. And I don't have super internet, either. So at 72% it just crashes over and over and over no matter what I try. My husband had his update just fine, no crashes, just took awhile.

Not mine, though. The launcher was actually doing ok with a funny little trick. Someone on the forums suggested keeping your cursor over the green part of the process bar. It worked, up until 72%. Now it just crashes so much, it can't even reach 73.

This is really, honestly, a very fun game or at least it was when I played it some time back. I mean like, 6-7 years ago and before that but I can't remember how long before that. But if the launcher wants to be impossible, I'm not going to sit here and fight with it.

I may be in quarantine, but my time isn't that useless.

TL;DR
I would not buy this game if I hadn't already. But I would advise people playing it. Make of that what you will. Simply because of the creators who actually put their heart into aspects of this game and because of modders who really make it shine; this is a fun game to play and worth the time. It is NOT worth ANY money.

"But why?" You might ask. The extremely long rant to follow are *some* (not all, I am just tired of writing) my reasons:

This is a love hate thing with the Sims 3. I was so addicted to Sims 2 I lost whole days sitting in front of my computer planning out their day to day routines and hoping that they actually did well. (I know a lot of simmers just want the absolutely worst outcomes and love either killing and/or torturing their poor Sims)

But this game changed that a little. I still don't have a bunch of murder, sex or terror mods that make their lives truly miserable, but I don't care near as much for the characters I make or choose to play, I don't have much of a connection to them and sometimes I just stop caring and walk away leaving them to do their own thing until I just save and exit. Sims 3 lost a lot of charm Sims 2 had and honestly, I blame this entirely on EA's way of thinking which seriously tanked in the customer help department about the same time. It also began to be called the worst company every year and so on and so on. The game is pushed more and more for microtransations and not much else now. Especially with the upcoming Sims 4.

Microtransactions are a good thing, do not get me wrong please. These are very small purchases someone can make with real money online to pay for all different types of digital goodies to use in game. For most things this is a term MMORPGs use and they sell cosmetic things. Outfits, pets, mounts, hair, etc. etc.

With games like Team Fortress 2 this has not only kept the game alive, but brought forth an entirely new type of community where artists and creators come together to make outstanding creations which the community can then vote on and the original creators can make real money from their serious effort and hard work; hand in hand with the original game's creators to make something entirely new. This idea has even started to be embraced by MMORPGs such as EQ2 which now has their own type of workshop where players can now create things for that game. It goes on and on and on how awesome microtransactions can be for a game, bring it back to life and keep it ticking with new content and eye candy for everyone. It's even been how some companies now fund the next expansion, start new servers or how they are able to further polish their games.

Sims 3 though went and tore this concept apart (as far as I am concerned) and with Sim Points introduced a new low in this field. Sim points are nothing new, the way they are handled in Sims 3 though is. If you want to buy a certain type of object that has new animations and/or has an actual use in the game that would change it at all; then you cannot just buy that item but actually have to spend more money than you would just buying a stuff pack alone. These things are usually leaning towards harassing the player even in their game to buy the items. Everything with Sims 3 is an add to buy something else in Sims 3 and it never stops even when the player is playing. You can turn these options off but let's look at the key point for EA: Sell items to little girls playing. Mostly these little girls do not understand the value of a dollar, do not understand what EA is about or how little they could care. I'm not saying a lot of companis are bleeding hearts but it's more than obvious that EA takes the cake when it comes to giving their customers the finger.

On top of all of this, there are the bug and game stopping glitches. I want to state first of all, ALL GAMES WILL HAVE BUGS AND GLITCHES ALL OF THE TIME ON ANY CONSOLE OR PC NO MATTER WHAT. Even Mario still has glitches! It doesn't matter, games cannot be 100% polished at all times, it is not possible. But game breaking glitches that either force the player to stop playing, do not allow the player to continue to play or break the game entirely, ruin the save or even break itself; are out of the question! Especially for such a large company! Every time a Stuff or Expansion pac has come out, there is always a game breaking glitch that does one or more of these things.

Late Night is a great example. Mysteriously players suddenly had a horrible time trying to please or even sometimes control their Sims. Sims would be unhappy no matter what the players did. They would stay bright red day and night, become incresibly ticked off at all times, divorce one another without the player being able to stop it, kids would be taken away. No one knew what was happening or how to stop it. As it turns out, it was the beds. For some unknown reason beds weren't working correctly in games. They would cause the characters to become more and more upset until someone finally made a mod fixing this glitch. The game breaking glitch was fixed well *after* Christmas, months after the game came out and the glitch was made aware by players on the forums of Sims 3. Simply because the game wasn't tested enough nor were the customers heard.

Game breaking glitches and huge annoyances adding to lag and unplayable situations are still in the game today even though Sims 4 has been announced and you can even pre-order it though they only have a handful of screenshots and a video that they have also stated will change.

They make it so obvious that everything is only about money that they forgot the simple truth. This is a game for kids and adults alike. This is a learning machine for everyone and a fun experience to boot. I would suggest playing the game. With the right mods (Google NRAA Sims 3) this game is really fun. It is very time consuming and if you are willing to face a serious challenge, (unless you don't want that you can always mod it too!) at least with your time, than I would suggest this. It is a LOT easier than Sims 2, make of that what you will (if you played). You do not need to know anything at all about Sims 2 to play this either which is another plus. Although the cow plant is brought back and I adored that as well. Yes it still eats Simmies. Sims 2 was a huge challenge money and happiness wise, this is more of a "how much time are you willing to sit and grab achievements online, skill up, etc." type of thing.
