The game is great and looks amazing, but I'm now getting crashes after nearly every section (5-10 minute increments). Unfortunately this didn't start happening until about 6-7 hours into the game. It's like they focused on bugs in the earlier levels so there would be less refunds and less criticism on release.

Wait until it's fixed and/or on sale. Will update my review when a patch comes out that lets me finish the game.

Days Gone is a surprisingly good game with a slow start. It probably has the best character writing and the most overall cohesive story writing in any game I've played.

I was expecting a thin, pointless story and a bunch of zombies to kill. This game has several recurring themes in it that are subtle, but are continuously played with and picked apart during story missions. The characters really took me on a ride. I changed my opinion of about half of them as I got to know them. Sometimes I changed my opinion back later. A couple of them even changed my mind about events that took place in the game. In a world where most video game writing make no sense, the characters and dialogue in Days Gone shines above the rest.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't really pick up until you hit the third zone. The first two zones are meant to be somewhat aimless because that's how the character is at this point in the story, but it doesn't come across that way to the player until after they've played latter areas and realized this was intentional (if they ever did). Somewhere in the third zone (where the story/writing picks up) is also the point where you'll probably start to get tired of the game play.

If there was more depth to the game mechanics and the story was just slightly shorter/more refined, this probably would have been a home run. As it is, I still highly recommend it.

I really liked the gameplay, but the story was really bad. I also had a game breaking bug in the final level that made me unable to progress.

For $5, it was worth it just to play something different than what you'll find in any other title.

The performance leaves something to be desired, but this is a great game even if you aren't a big fan of the IP.

The game still suffers from a litany of PC game cardinal sins: performance problems, fps cap, ultrawide res not supported, forced vignette, forced chromatic aberration, and probably more that escape me at the moment. However, the game itself is really good once you take the time to learn its quirks.

I still won't give the game a positive recommendation because the problems I detailed above are just not acceptable in from a company that has the ability to fix them. It's a good game otherwise.

The VR isn't very polished and I got pretty motion sick from it. I decided to just play it flat.

The game is fantastic and great fun. It's a good extension of bridge crew or artemis. If you like either of those games, you'll probably like this one.

Edited this review after all of the MAJOR issues have now been fixed.

This game is the most fun I've ever had in VR. The single-player campaign is fun even though it's short. I'll be playing through it on every difficulty and trying to unlock all of the medals for each level.

The game is really about the PVP. There's a dogfight mode which I didn't put much stock in before the game's release however this is just ridiculously fun.

There is also a PVP mode called fleet battles that resembles a MOBA. It is extremely fun playing it with friends where you're discussing how you can win or what you need to do better on the enemy's next attack.

My big criticism is that there are some cheese mechanics in the MOBA mode (and in dogfights to an extent) that are too strong and not in the spirit of the game. I am a big fan of emergent gameplay and tactics in PVP games, but bombers basically fly up to your capital ship, sit still and unload on your ship until someone shoots them down. They will always do more damage that way than playing "right" and doing bombing runs. It really breaks the fun of the game and doing damage is no longer about flying as a squad together, it's about sneaking a bomber in under the enemy team's noses. If that issue gets fixed, I could see this game lasting a long time.

This isn't your typical franchise game that is kind of bad but if you really like the franchise then you might like it. This is a really good game in general and if you like star wars then it's awesome.

This game suffers from being so unique that people don't know what they're buying. It's a bit of a metroidvania, sprinkle in some souls-like combat, a big helping of platforming, and then you get to use the force which impacts all of that. This game is just good and you should play it.
