I really wish I could give a neutral review for games cause this is definitely a game that really deserves it.

There's a lot of good things about this game: The gameplay is fun, the characters are interesting and memorable, and some of the writing building up the story is excellent.

But it ends up not being worth it cause they Bioware'd the endings. No matter what you do, what decisions you make, V is ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Only the flavour of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ changes in a few of the endings, the rest are basically copy-pasted. Which is a shame cause the foundation of the game is solid, but you walk away with the bitter taste of disappointment in your mouth afterward.

And whether that is a dealbreaker for you is subjective, but for me, it soured much of my enjoyment of what good there is in the game.

So I went into this game with a very Age2 mindset and ended up disappointed. But having both watched a bunch of matches and played a lot myself, I actually prefer this to Age2 now.

It's it's own game. Don't go into it expecting it to be Age2 like I did. I think with time it absolutely has the ability to surpass Age2, and in many ways, it already does.

It's just painfully average. Would recommend Deep Rock Galactic over this every time.

The game is decently balanced enough, and Relic are good about adding and updating content. But the game has an issue with bugs, and quitters. The worst bug being a bug that breaks the surrender vote box, preventing you from surrendering. Relic has never tackled the issues with quitters, and they (the quitters) face no penalty for quitting the match early. Based on that alone, I cannot recommend this game. Wait for CoH3 or find a different RTS.

1st June 2021 Updade:
They did a patch that broke the framerates so bad it was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with my epilepsy. So yeah. Not getting any better, Relic.

8th June Update: They completely reverted the patch earlier in the week.

I cannot recommend this Culture Pack. Compare it to the others, and you'll see why. This one offers less at the same price point. All the others have unique Buildings and Event Chains in addition to unique units. All this offers is Units. If it were cheaper or they added content to bring it up to par with the other Culture Packs, I'd recommend it. But until then, don't get it full price. Wait for it to be on sale. I understand that this was their first expansion for it, but that doesn't change the value prospect when it's still being sold at the same price as their later expansions.

Gameplaywise, the Viking Forefathers play very much like the Germanic factions, with similar early-mid game unit rosters with a greater focus on Naval combat. If you want to play a Raiding/pillaging faction however, you're better off going for the Celts unless you REALLY like Vikings (and who could blame you if you do?)

All in all, it's decent. Worth getting on sale, but not otherwise.
