Not a review, but rather a small caveat that might save your time and money

While I rather liked the first couple of hours I had with this game (it has that appealing clunky flavour many cheap games have, and seems to be rather in-depth and diverse in terms of gameplay options), it greatly suffers from its half-assed save system. Due to some reason, the devs decided to go without quick and manual saves, leaving you with autosave that occurs ONLY at the beginning of each mission and apparently after dying, though I never got to know that for sure. This is a huge problem, as the maps are big (and by that I mean BIG) open areas with lots of enemies and objectives, and completing one level could take more than an hour. The enemies have infinite respawn, there are areas, weapons and objects that can instakill you, hacks can be deadly, some debuffs render the game barely playable, and I don't even mention your normal deaths and failed attempts that call for replaying.

Having to restart the whole mission, losing 60+ minutes of progress is garbage. No one likes it. While the fear of punishment for death can be suitable for survival horror genre, FPS, stealth and RPG titles desperately need quick and manual saves. Taking them away from the player doesn't make the game harder and tenser, but instead more tedious. It kills player's natural desire for being creative and using the variety of options the game has to offer. Being under constant fear of punishment (which is wasted time and progress), people play the levels in the safest and quickest way possible, which is a death sentence to a game that relies heavily on its variety of tactical options and encourages players to be inventive in ther way towards the goal. These mechanics work ONLY if the player's creativity is not hampered by the punishment for making a wrong choice and/or dying.

In addition, the game apparently lacks autosave on quitting, which is... I don't even know what to call it. Imagine having to turn off your PC asap and leave or deciding to go to sleep in the middle of playing session. You either waste another 20 or 30 minutes to get to the end of the level or lose everything that you have done after the last save point. Does it seem like a good concept to you?

Summing up, I'd like to mention that there might be some in-game objects that let you save the game (just like schnapps in Kingdom Come: Deliverance), but even if it is true, limiting one of the basic options in gaming due to no logical reason is unacceptable. E.Y.E. came out in 2011, and it doesn't even have checkpoints, which would make it more or less tolerable. Again, I am sorry that I have to recommend against this game, but if you enjoy trying different options and approaches, doing weird stuff and experimenting with your weapons and skills, you will be rather disappointed. I am in no way telling that you shouldn't try the game and see for yourself, this is more of a warning to those who seek the true freedom of action in games.

P.S. It's been 7 years since the release, but there is still no fix for this. Even with mods.
