I managed to get my hands on all three games, but now having played the first one all the way through, I can say that it's pretty solid. It has quite a few bugs, and a few of the stages can be a bit more frustrating than others. However, I would say the overall experience is a positive one. Yet another entry I get to add to the "directly inspired by retro games list" with Bug Fables and Eastward.

Out of many Metroidvanias out there, this one definitely has some solid gameplay for not being well known. It has some rough spots sure, but it really does give an authentic feeling of that retro style that the genre was defined with.

The soundtrack, composed by Monomer, is definitely the main selling point for me personally and also how I discovered the game, but the game itself, while short, is still a nice game to spend an afternoon or two on for the sake of it. Kind of like a similar title, Gato Roboto, that I've also played. I would suggest that one too.

I have only played a little and still have many a secret to uncover, but this game definitely scratches that exploration itch that I've been looking for since Environmental Station Alpha. (Look it up, it's made by one of the people helping with Noita)

Overall a refreshing experience, can't wait to discover even more!

It's an idle game that doesn't last forever. This is a good thing, not a bad one.

The Spore Lizard would make for a good pet. His name is Puffers and he be a good boy. Make sure to say hello when you get into the game.

I must say, for all of the old guard in the RoR community, this is everything that could have ever been asked for. The game as a whole still carries the soul of the original wholeheartedly that made this entire series what it is today, while also bringing in as many QoL features as possible that don't get in the way of that idea.

Just to list a few:
* Massive Graphical Improvements that still feel just like the original (I quite literally looked at the old sprites at the end of the game and said to myself, "wait, they used to look like that?!" The new sprites just carry over that smoothly)
* Enemy AI has been improved significantly as well. They can climb ropes, jump ledges more often, and follow you around pretty well.
* Multiplayer isn't a tacked on feature anymore, fully integrated into the game. RoR2 fans take a lot of this for granted now, but smacking your router to get someone else to play with was a nice hassle to be gone with now
* UI improvements and Skins giving a nice feel overall
* etc.

Admittedly, there are still a few clunky things here and there that could be addressed, the walking while aiming being a bit of a gripe I've seen a lot from others especially. However, I can at least say as a fan the series as a whole (all achievements in RoR2 and most in 1) that this brings back the memories when I would play the original, FTL, Cave Story, Magicite, and all of the other indies of a bygone era. This game is exactly what it needs to be and I would recommend it to anyone who also enjoys the design philosophy of those types of games back then, brought into the modern times.

If you are looking for a Dungeon of the Endless two verbatim, this might not be the exact game for you. A lot of the mechanics are different and augmented heavily from the first game which can turn a fair few of the old fans away. However, I do feel this game does stand up in it's own right by itself as a good game still.

The entire game-loop is still challenging, strategic, and interesting to move through with plenty of content already to sink your teeth into. Then the fact that it's still going to release more updates in the future just means it'll be even better. The game does have one major caveat that Co-op play doesn't unlock characters for everyone (which it SHOULD) but it's honestly a pretty minor issue in the grand scheme of it all.

I give this game a solid 8/10 for how much fun it is and hope that others from the original game can also find enjoyment out of it.

Good game

There is a battle pass which is a lesser evil, but at least their aren't loot boxes.

The game gets a thumbs up from me for now. Although it does skirt the line pretty scarily with Easy Anti Cheat, needing a Warner Bros account, and the in app purchases to an extent. We will wait and see what comes of it, but for now I do consider this to be a worthwhile game to play with friends if you have the friends to play it with.

I can say that I mostly have played this game for the story. (Don't play RPGs in general much) but I can say I enjoyed it. There are small things here and there that can be troublesome like the rock-paper-scissors combat system and the repeat abilities on characters, but overall I would still consider it a good game. Can recommend it can can say it is worth playing.

Being worth the price is a bit of a dubious one, but if it goes on sale then I would say it's worthwhile.
