Far Cry 2 was a influential game at the time, not only for the future of its franchise, but also the entire gaming industry. Sadly, it's not hard to see how dated the design and gameloop of Far Cry 2 is. It doesn't take long to realise how frustrating and annoying the game tries to be on purpose.

Every mission goes like this; You find a mission giver at the hub, you listen to the briefing and get a waypoint. Pretty standard for games, so you make your way to the mission location with a car, but randomly enemies with cars will aggressivly chase and crash into you, forcing you to either manuever away or fight them. These small fights aren't hard, but they're tedious and frequent.

You'll also drive past the same outpost multiple times, which you've cleared multiple times, but every single instance of you driving through it, the guard will have respawned and you're forced to either just ignore them or fight the easy but yet again tedious fight.

Complete the mission, which is usually just: "Destroy this thing at this place, with a couple guards here and there". Most of Far Cry games are like this, but in this one there is no real satisfaction. It's stupidly easy, most missions can be done by just sniping the objective with an explosive weapon and you're done.

After the mission is complete you are forced to drive back to the hub to grab another mission, dealing with the same random car fights and infinitely spawning outposts. Do this for 13 hours and that's the game.

when this game came out, the concept was totally unique and a great fun to play. apparently it's dead now so I have no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ went wrong but I'm sure it wasn't due to neglect from the devs side, right?
