FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLAY THE GAME CASUALLY AS A FUNNY PARTY GAME WITH SCARY KILLERS AND DO NOT FALL INTO THE TRAP OF PLAYING COMPETITIVELY FOR EVEN A SLIVER OF A MOMENT YOU'LL HATE YOURSELF A LOT AND THE SUNK COST FALLACY WILL TRAP YOU IN THE GAMEPLAY LOOP. The game is not new player friendly and I'll stick to this statement because plenty of players have optimised the fun out of the game when it comes to playing it. People not even near the MMR they think they are in playing as if they're in a tournament and the tribalism between both survivor mains and killer mains is WAY TOO TOXIC. Let me try and break it down for you and paint you a picture and I hope this helps in making an informed choice on getting the game. As it stands currently though the game is more survivor sided purely due to the fact that core aspect of the game being hide and seek type of game with barely any info shared between players conflicts with how groups of friends normally play which is over voice chat, which means survivors are actually both under-powered (solo) and overpowered (team play)

Tribalism - Survivor mains
They're whiny for sure, but statistically this is bound to happen as it's 1 versus 4 but man survivors are pretty delusional. Those that play competitively will kick a person learning to play killer while they are down, they take ANY win as them being good at the game forgetting that an asymmetric game really just depends on RNG and the reactions of every player. Plenty of times there are those people who set arbitrary rules to how killers should be killing properly even if at times those rules put killers in a spot where they practically can't do anything and post game they can be very toxic to even their own teammates. I've had teammates who could not function for 2 minutes after being injured following me for heals when the killer is on their tail AND CAN SEE THEM MY GOD LOOK BEHIND YOU! And then they act like everything they did was perfect and it was just the killer being toxic when the killer was alerted by them all the damn time because they didn't put any effort in surviving like a survivor SHOULD.

Tribalism - Killer mains
God competitive killer mains are actually the whiniest babies I've seen and no not the people calling for nerfs to perks or reminding us that the game is survivor sided every minute but there are killer mains who genuinely are mediocre at the game, but want to play competitively, but are not seeing any progress in their gameplay so they stew in the forums and discussion boards complaining about survivors literally doing ANYTHING?? Killers have accused me of genrushing and tryharding when I don't have any items or gen perks on let alone META perks?? Killers constantly whining not even about toxicity (but I'm with them there) but about being STUNNED? do you want the survivors to stand still? I've seen people complain about looping and being blinded like looking at a wall or perks that remedy the stun time don't exist. Complaints from people who clearly do not test or even experiment with their builds because the discussions and forums have become a killer echo chamber.

Plenty of people playing competitively see the balance of the game in a black and white manner. Survivor bad Killer good, but fail to realise that survivors both hold plenty and no power in that the strength lies in communication, meanwhile the game is set by the killer who when applying pressure well can come out with a clean sweep or close at least. The game is asymmetric too so it will never be fully balanced and people don't want to admit that it's in a much better state than it was years ago. BHVR is slow with balancing but they aren't the worst, but you see streamers overreacted setting off a chain reaction within the playerbase and can just SEE people don't actually think for themselves when they parrot their opinions. Yeah so the game is very competitive now but please don't set out to play it in that manner, even if you're tough or can endure it's FUNNY when you don't take it seriously, break the ice and chat to people, emote, have fun but still try to survive. It's a video game at the end of the day. Not recommending for your sanity, but give it a try if it's on sale, the game is littered with stupid amounts of micro-transactions so the grind for anything good is where most of the play time comes from with some people.

I guess I forgot to update my review since I'm still quite jaded with the state of the game even years after the decision made by Bungie to mass sunset content and weapons (Basically the removal of paid content in a digital "vault" of sorts). The game in its current state from what I have seen even long past the time I've stopped playing is bad, I can't recommend it to players wishing to return to it, and it's certainly a game I'd advise new players to just skip no matter how alluring all the content creators and the trailers make it out to be.

The monetisation is horrible, so many aspects of the game are behind a paywall. The game is heavy on FOMO (Fear of missing out) and most tasks feel like a chore especially when working towards getting materials to upgrade your weapons and gear as the grind works on weekly cycles and with the season pass model you kinda need to fork over cash to lessen the grind. Bungie has also successfully groomed their playerbase into accepting most of these aggressive microtransations as normal or to treat it as white noise. As a new player, since aspects of the game are gone and vaulted the lore will make no sense, public LFG system is cutthroat as weapons and gear and content most likely locked behind paywalls are what people are mostly doing, elitism is the norm and while its by no means the worst community you have a better chance enjoying the game with people after you fork over the dough for the DLC and Expansions you need for your full experience.

The game gets away with being this aggressive with mobile game levels of monetisation because of the design team and of its art direction. The skyboxes in each environment are still quite amazing, the armour designs are definitely good enough to scratch the itch in your brain that motivates you to endure more mundane samey missions for rewards that help you look cooler and get a bigger number (light level). However, because the game cut out so much it feels incomplete to those entering now, new player experience is horrible as after the introductory quests you literally are done, no immersive experience just an abridged destiny 1 opening, free trial state over, shell up cash to actually do the story or try the content. There are DOZENS of better games you can try so save that money for the next steam sale. The lore is genuinely great though, I suggest watching a video on YouTube or reading the lore-books as those sell the experience of the world better than the game itself.

Despite the grind, the game was pretty fun though I don't think it's the game for me. Why I say this is because the experience leaves me less satisfied and more exhausted each time I play the game.

This game, this game man.... so much potential and amazing visuals and pretty interesting characters but damn it's dead at this point. I want to love it but no matter how many times I've tried playing it it just felt really boring or annoying at times and that's mainly because playing with bots is just the same experience everytime. Servers are dead, bots the same, hunt forever in beta. Don't bother investing time in the game like I did.

Its fun, really addictive. The community is way too toxic though. You may have it rough if you start as a new player. Practice in bot matches if you need to get used to the machanics. Takes a lot of time to get used to the game and even more time to tolerate the community.

Best free to play game in the market given that the game has continued to survive for over a decade, which is something you have to keep in mind. All the events and story missions and weapons and warframes are decades worth of content so you definitely need a wiki in hand and a clan you can join to ground yourself. The market ingame is a noob trap. To put it in easier terms, think of Destiny 2's cash shop, except the premuim currency can be traded with other players freely and seamlessly with 2FA and protections in place to protect against bots. The grind for high level loot has been reduced so much that the new game plus star map with harder difficulty is where most people go to spend their time once they feel they finished the base star chart.

The game devs engage with players through regular dev streams with twitch drop rewards so be sure to at least claim those rewards they are very good, they continue to implement changes to make the game better, but you will burn out with how much content there is. It's a game best played when you have nothing to play or are tired of other games. Something to fill the gaps when you don't know what to get on Steam and can run on a potato so it is not demanding at all. The resources online to help with builds, alerts, reward tracking and marketplace prices for items are tailor made to make the game enjoyable and fast.

Give Warframe a try especially if you have friends that already play the game, and take your own time with the game, as mentioned before you will burn out if you're trying to do too much in a short amount of time.
