Hard recommend!! Especially if you enjoyed the original RE 4 since the remake is the perfect balance of action, horror elements and the camp aspect of Resident Evil that was present in the original game. All the redesigns of the characters, enemies and environments have been given an extreme amount of care, from beginning to end the game is impressively polished. Without any of the cosmetic DLC and the weapon upgrade DLC you still have a full experience, plenty of replay value as well if you're an achievement hunter or just want to collect content in the shop through completing missions with the combat point system. Definitely on par with Resident Evil 2 as a phenomenal remake as far as the quality of RE remakes go!

Hooo boy ok ok be mindful because the recommendation from me is like.... a REALLY SOFT recommend like if the game was any more flawed I'd definitely not recommend it at all but I managed to install mods that clean up a lot of the rough spots that allow me to enjoy the game.

BEFORE YOU BUY, ask yourself if you have the patience to deal with the EA launcher since sometimes the launcher can bug out when it loses network connectivity and soft lock you out of the game, other times the EA launcher can mess with mods if you plan on installing any. The game is old so if you want to install mods that improve your quality of life and might help make the game more enjoyable then you'll be holding together the mods and the game with tape and band-aids because there's plenty of research and time that will be dedicated to actually making sure they work.

The game without the use of mods is bloated, like absolutely bloated, like almost as bad as assassins creed bloated but each map has the same types of collectables scattered everywhere and a lot of fetch quests are "search this area for x" types of quests that can break you if you don't have the patience for that. Rewards are level and class locked and you'll come across those often IF you can even carry those items because of how small of an inventory space you have. The more people you add to you pool of fighters the more of a hassle it becomes to micromanage their equipment, upgrades, modifications, add-ons etc. The UI can be an absolute mess so just leveling up once can stop the flow of the game with how often you navigate between menus to spend points and potentially equip a new piece of armour you might have been leveling towards.

The combat without mods is a SLOG, like sorry but don't bother using the tactical camera the AI is dumb and that feature is so limited. For instance fighting dragons in the series is not good (don't worry dragons are kind of an afterthought sometimes you won't be fighting them that much). The AI is not good at detecting environmental hazards so a lot of the time they just stand in hazard while their health chips away and they burn through your potion reserves. With everyone in the party sharing those potions you can see why this can be a problem, allies burning through potions because they won't avoid staying in an area that actively damages them and the AI behaviours you can adjust are VERY limited so you can hardly prepare any contingency plans should something go wrong. Again you'll see how bad these get during dragon fights. Apart from those enemies are very much DPS sponges, you can go through a god rotation of abilities on mini bosses and they'll just soak it up, mind you this is when you exceed the level requirements sometimes. There are bosses that spam defensive armour as well, dragons included, maximum armour or shield you have to burn down again and again which means you essentially have to try and burst them down before they apply more armour like trust me they really spam that a lot.

Again this is still a soft recommendation since I had the mods work during my playthrough, if you figure out how to make them work and hope and pray that the EA Launcher doesn't screw anything up you can still enjoy the core game, which is still well done, enough of the game has aged well for me to at least appreciate it. Also the story is eeehhh... well for every interesting aspect there's also an aspect that leaves you wondering what the game is even trying to say, but the romances are well done, for 2014 that is. Overall the experience I've had left me very conflicted, but I can't lie when I say I did enjoy myself somewhat.

Amazing remake, visually pleasing, great at making me feel uneasy in plenty of sections and the game gives you enough reasons to replay it again and again, up to 4 times at least for each scenario and sub-scenario. I love that Capcom allows you to unlock the concept art and character models as well, for people who like small touches like these and attention to detail then they'll be pleased with how much effort was put into remaking the original RE 2. The music is also pretty great, cut scenes look amazing the enemies are enough to scare you without them being put into scripted sections of the game to get a jump out of you and the combat feels solid, love how much of a threat Mr X is in this game as well!

Finished the main story, and I have to say this game is truly amazing, the first use of Capcom's Reach for the Moon engine and honestly I understand why people loved RE 7 on launch. I wish this was my introduction into the franchise and survival horror in general since it is unnerving in plenty of the sections in the game. The only form of comfort you're provided throughout the play through are through the save rooms and the story itself is pretty solid and enough to get you immersed.

Only negative I can think of is the sudden feeling of the pace of the game slowing down on the final act, some areas during that act feeling a bit slow and dragged out despite everything in the game pretty much signalling to you that you're nearing the end, though that's a minor issue and honestly a bit of a nitpick on my part.

So yeah in general, the length of the game is pretty great, the enemies are varied enough and despite the simple design can be terrifying and unsettling, the story is quite good for a simple as it is on the surface and the puzzles don't put much of a stop on the flow of the game. Also I know people will side eye me for this comment but Jack Backer is hot along with Joe, so its pretty neat being stalked by one hot hillbilly only to play as the other in the bonus content like goodness they must smell rancid but in a hot way. Game goes on sale frequently as well, quite the steal!

It is admittedly short but playtime can still be extended by trying to get the items in the shop or beating the game on the other difficulties. The seamless transition from gameplay to the actual cutscenes are really good even if it might leave you wondering if events you're controlling are scripted or if you can die in those scenarios. Not quite as scary as Resident Evil 2 remake but it still has some moments that make you feel uneasy. I'd recommend the game for anyone interested in giving it a try though it might be better to get the game on sale. Again for as phenomenal of a job Capcom did with the redesigns and cutscenes the game is still quite short.

Monster Hunter Rise is a phenomenal Monster Hunter game, let me just get that much out of the way. I can't say that this entry into the series is the best as I haven't played many Monster Hunter titles BUT when it comes to accessibility this game is the most beginner friendly Monster Hunter game I have played. The flaws in the game though can kinda make the whole experience feel somewhat incomplete especially for what fans of the genre are used to receiving from Capcom.

To start, the base game is quite short, and yeah that's due to lock-down and Covid reasons but the amount of content in the base game is not exactly that great. The game introduces a mode to make up for the lack of siege content called rampages and they can be tedious to get through, rewards from these quests aren't motivating enough to keep you grinding for whatever content they drop like right now I can't even remember much of what they provided. Apex monsters are also not all that great as they have no armour tied to them as well, no motivation to grind the quests that involve them. The story, at least for a Monster Hunter game is lukewarm, but the characters introduced are quite nice. I'm struggling to actually find much to say about the base game as the content there isn't really all that interesting BUT the game's combat carries the whole experience, even with nothing much to grind there are still new ways to enjoy every hunt!

Now comes the expansion, Sunbreak, which is overall a net positive. The title updates that came with the expansion also came with quality of life updates that helped improve the experience of Rise but honestly should have been added to the game from the start, new monsters, new weapons, new skills, new follower system etc. The expansion pretty much fixed most of the issues anyone had with Rise to start with. The new flagship(s) were a welcome addition as their designs and overall introductions and fights were fun to go against. The Follower system was one of the best additions to the game as they allow for aggro to be shared between NPCs who assist in your hunts, buddy system came with new added secret skills and weapons, New hub area is also beautiful and more compact than Kamura, it's really that good compared to base Rise.

My issue with the expansion though comes firstly with the weapon balancing. With hunters getting faster monsters have had shorter cool-downs and gaps between moves they use, making for interesting and fun combat however with the switch skill additions there has been a problem, a good amount of weapons used only have a set few skills that are mostly viable. In an attempt to make each weapon class more flexible Capcom has actually made it hard to justify using some skills over the obvious good choice. This means that for optimal builds in the game's late game you usually have to stick to the more favoured meta builds or risk fainting / struggling with the now buffed and hyper mobile monsters in the Anomaly content. Some weapon changes also feel unnecessary too, some weapon skills that could be used on command in past games being tied to wirebugs, those tools having a cooldown so wirebug management can get annoying. So you can imagine needing to use wirebugs to avoid attacks AND use skills makes for plenty of frustrating moments where you are dependant on the gauge to execute combos at the right time.

More issues with Rise's Sunbreak come with small things such as food skills and buffs in this game, food doesn't maximise your health later on as you get better ingredients and vouchers you use no longer guarantee a good meal as a lot of food items even with a voucher don't trigger. In later content you have to spend time running around the map to collect endemic life to finally buff your health fully if you're not confident in your ability to not faint. Endgame augment system while not the worst is layered with RNG after RNG, the better talisman systems are unlocked waaaay too far into the later section of the game as the ranking system for anomaly quests are pretty slow. The game has a limited and rather annoying multiplayer system too, being region locked which I needed to install a mod to bypass and for some reason NEEDING you to select the specific mission you want to do with people before searching so you have to hope anyone is doing it or take a random chance at finding a hunt and hoping its a good one. Even with the random search it automatically pulls you in to the first you find soo it's common to host a quest and have people withdraw. The endgame content, Anomalies, will burn you out well before you even reached the max rank, each quest barely giving you ONE level and they get longer as you rank up due to increased health.

Regradless of my issues and how I feel towards the base game and the expansion, Monster hunter Rise as a game is very fun, the combat carrying the game in general honestly even with the changes made to a lot of the weapons from previous entries. The monster roster being more diverse and larger than the previous game Monster Hunter World which was something most people were glad was the case and the game in general being more forgiving to solo hunters makes it the best entry to introduce to those new to the series.

Really hot, hitting a lot of my sweet spots so I've admittedly played the game for way longer than I should have.

This game was my first Monster Hunter game, and probably one of the best gaming experiences I've had in quite a while honestly. I got the game on a whim when it was on sale and have not regretted committing to it. The genre is not for everyone and while I believe it to be an amazing game I can still recognise its flaws but most of the positives make up for the shortcomings of the game. I know that to most veterans of the genre that this game is quite the shift from what Monster Hunter is like traditionally but it's because of World and Iceborne that I even took an interest in the series as a whole and am currently working through the older titles to experience what past players have.

Monster Hunter World is pretty long for all the content that was added during the game's support, Thankfully if you missed the seasonal events they're still being rotated according to the time of the year. The game is no longer supported which means it's a complete game when you buy the base game and the expansion. It can be played offline as well so your experience isn't dependant on internet connection. While the store has plenty of cosmetic DLC these are transmog armour sets and stickers and weapon charms that have no gameplay value apart from just looking pretty. There are plenty and I mean PLENTY of event quests and endgame quests that have a range of cosmetic items to choose from so purchasing the DLC is more of a personal preference thing. (Make no mistake microtransactions in games in general are bad even if they can be ignored) The only expansion you truly need is Iceborne which is in my opinion the MEAT of the game.

The expansion (Iceborne) adds plenty of content to the game that can keep you busy for hundreds of hours. Though a new mechanic introduced to the expansion is a bit of a hit or miss depending on the weapon you use and your opinion on what makes a hunt in the game fun to you. Given that there are plenty of ways to enjoy the hunts in the game people's opinions differ, but it's not too much of a change that'd ruin the experience. The pure endgame content while possible to do alone is best done with a group, thankfully there are a good amount of players still invested in the game helping new players. The endgame is brutal but worth the rewards and the event quests add some neat challenges you can try out when you want a change of pace.

The game itself has plenty of charm, cute one moment and epic the next. The ecology of the game itself is also very interesting and impressively detailed, knowing how these monsters interact with the environment and with one another through the turf wars and introductions makes the world itself feel so alive and god I LOVE the gameplay loop the most especially with how complex and layered the mechanics of each weapon are and the ways in which you can experiment with builds. I recommend giving the game a shot, especially if you have friends to help you through it, its so worth it!
