Good writing is the exception rather than the rule in FF14. For a game so intent on creating a lengthy and continuous story-line, it is unfortunate that the majority of dialogue is purely long-winded exposition. The majority of the UI systems are archaic and needlessly lengthy, and for the majority of your leveling experience you will be experiencing sub-par, mandatory, story content.

Would you like to do a simple crafting levequest? Click an NPC, select a dialogue to open the levequest menu (even though this is the only purpose of the NPC), select a profession, select a level range, select your levequest, choose accept.
Walk to the turn in NPC, select that you wish to complete your levequest, right click the dialogue box, right click the only item you can turn in, select which one you want to use, click confirm if you selected HQ (which is most common), click confirm again that you want to recieve the reward for your quest, click through the confirmation dialogue, and if the quest allows multiple turn ins repeat the second part of this process two more times.

It's hard to recommend a subscription based game, with a retail and expansion cost, that also routinely adds cosmetics to the cash only shop: rather than offering them as in game rewards. Storage wise the game has a lot of items and few inventory spaces... unless you pay an additionally recurring fee for more.

There's fun to be had, but only after you spend several hundred hours without any.

Good game to get during the summer sale

One of the most well written games ever made. The game manages to capture that special something about life where no matter what you do things won't work out; it's truly unique for that.
