This game is the definition of "Don't judge a book by its cover." A lot of mechanics of the game seem overly difficult at the beginning of the game, and they're supposed to. The long-term progression is the main focus of this game. You can unlock some cool things that last during your run, but nothing is as good as the upgrades you get between runs.

I really like the sense of long-term progression in this game. I can feel a significant leap in my progress almost every run in the first 8 hours of my playtime. The little secrets and rooms you can discover while mining are really fun, and give some good upgrades or mysterious lore tidbits.

The art in this game is really well done. There's a really cool effect with your spider mech and the environment that makes it feel 3D. The enemies are unique looking, well animated, and there's plenty of enemy variety.

EDIT: Since I wrote this review, the devs have added keybinding options, and have rebalanced a lot of the weapons to feel much better than they did upon release. I really have no complaints about any of the mechanics now, everything feels much smoother than it did on launch.

All in all, this game is a solid 10/10 for me, thanks to the recent quality-of-life updates it has received. It's also less than $5 at the time of the writing of this review, I'd say it's definitely worth at least a couple hours of your time.

Not only is the story fantastic, the music, voice acting, and art are all absolutely phenomenal. One of my favorite worlds and stories I've ever had the wonderful opportunity to participate in. Definitely excited to see what the next chapters will have to do with the story!
