I bought this thinking it would be and even more enjoyable version of one of my favorite games, Nidhogg. But when I played it, it didn't really sit right with me and I didn't enjoy it as much. I don't like the newer character designs and I feel like they overdid the newer graphics, it feels messier and hard to maintain that laser focus that made the original Nidhogg more enjoyable and fun.

Not only do I enjoy the look and feel of classic Nidhogg better, with it's overly simplistic art style, but the gameplay of Nidhogg II does not feel as smooth and clean as Nidhogg. The controls feel as sticky as glue and the graphics feel crude and distracting from the main focus of the original game: the gameplay mechanics.

While it is not a terrible game, and it does offer more variety than classic Nidhogg, it definitely feel or look as good as classic Nidhogg.

TL;DR:
Just buy Nidhogg instead.
