The shortest summary of this game I can give is that it's like Binding of Issac except more story focused.

There are numerous characters, numerous starting zones, constant character traits that you gain by acting with characters certain ways, an interesting overall story anad just looking at the achievement list. The combat system is effective however the upgrade system is lacking from what I've seen (increase passives at end of day & buy upgrades that slightly change main combat abilities). But since every character plays uniquely (your starting 4 classes are a swordsman, a druid, a blood mage & a warlock?), the lack of game-changing upgrades might not be so big an issue as it may seem.

The game looks lovely, with the pixel-art being fabulous & the "cutscene" art looking lovlier as you may see. It's aesthetically very appealing on the eyes, with the soundtrack fitting for the game (but not the best I've ever heard). I've convinced some of my friends to buy it later and & I'll update this later to tell you if it changes significantly after playing multiplayer with friends. But until then, I like this game & I'm happy to reccomend it.

A solid game with a lot of content overall. Above average gunplay, great concept, a thriving community, a great modding scene, S-tier music, admitidally some room for improvement here and there; but overall worth it.

I wish I could leave it at that. But over the last 2 years, things have changed...

At first, they released DLC which benefitted both paying and non-paying customers (e.g. heists; grenade cases, melee weapons).
They then released a lot of content tied to their steam group. Overall, it was good since it got PD2 more followers; especially when they linked Crimefest 2014 rewards to the members present.
However the biggest reward was a promotional tie-in with John Wick. If that wasn't a hint things were about to go downhill, I don't know what would be.
Then a lot of power-creep filled DLCs were released, with new guns replacing olds ones completely.
Then to counter this, alot of gimicky weapons were released (e.g. Bows, RPGs, Hand-held tazer)
Then P2W perk decks happened (e.g. Infiltrator, Grinder); making the game easier by the update.
Then the DLCs came faster and with 4 bits of tosh and 1 saving grace (e.g. Flamethrower, Valkyr, Katana, .308), all outclassing swaths of old weapons.
And then they got the community to grind 17 days doing near random challenges to unlock hints for Crimefest 2015. Everyone was slightly annoyed due to hoops they had to jump through, but it was overall gratifying to see the challenges get done. And hours before Crimefest 2015 launches; we finially finishes the last challenge. And Day 1 was...

Microtransactions that are literally P2W; and a weapon rebalance that means any gun that isn't single shot can't hit ♥♥♥♥ further than 5m away. The worst thing is that many weapons that became redundant with this "rebalance" become usable only if you use the P2W skins mentioned earlier.

This is a slash and burn business model which while Almir has stated in an AMA (paraphrased) "Sales show the community wants the microtransactions"; has pretty much killed both the modding and veteran community. So while I had fun with this game, I can't reccomend this game to anyone unless they both like supporting crappy business models and paying aggregious amounts of money to play a dying/dead game.

Instead, I reccomend looking towards games like L4D2, Warframe, Vermintide, Killing Floor 1/2, Mass Effect 3 MP and Payday 1 for PvE co-op shooters.
EDIT: Typos

EDIT 2: They removed the microtransactions, and since crimefest has added more content both free and paid. Forgiven, not forgotten, I'll edit if the situation changes...

This game has absolutely no right to be so good, but I'mnot complaining at-all.

Early Access Review
At the moment the game isn't very fleshed out. However from my experiences so far, it quite like Don't Starve played out in the style of DayZ. While there are no Tim Burton-esk style monsters, you will start off gathering resources, building huts and then making homes. You have to worry about food, confort, health and radiation in this build which can all be done rather easily. Building an actual home is an actual challenge which is good but will be annoying when you start off. I think you should only get this game (ATM) with either a few friends or if you are able to put up with slightly boring gameplay (to start with).
