The amount of time I've spent in this game would be surprising considering the score I'm giving it, but I cannot seriously recommend Brawlhalla when there are so many better ways to use your time. There's NO community in any online game I've faced (not even other F2P games such as LoL) that is as toxic as this one is. If you don't live close to one of the servers for this game your connection is jsut utter garbage. You're always gona have some sort of input lag. If you've ever played any fighting game you'll realize this game is very unbalanced and devs just cycle through metas to hype the tournaments up basically as they know exactly what they're doing and it's not balance. There's no penalty for doing or not doing stuff here (NO Rock Paper Scissors type of design you find in literally EVERY OTHER FIGHTING GAME). The whole economy behind this game revolves around being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, taunts are the best selling in-app purchase by a mile. If you don't live in the US (or one of the 1st world countries) then good luck trying to buy anything as the premium in-game currency price isn't region adjusted. The more you play and the farther you get (up to Diamond) the more passive and boring the game becomes. There's footsies, there's defensive oriented characters in other fighting games but this is ridiculous... some matches will be stalemates where your opponent will literally just run away. As a matter of a fact, running away is objectively more effective than anythign else which is an incentive to play passively. Why? Because you have more options to run away, dodge, defend, throw your weapon, etc than you have to approach. Why would I recommend a game whose population is mostly kids yet it has the most toxic players ever? Everyone is tired ofthe toxicity, of the passiveness and the overall same-ness of the game. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, few people really talk about this but it is the truth. You can check "toxicity Brawlhalla" on Youtube...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ptcbKYpc9I (funny ending tho)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ibx7yty3IrQ (this one is MUCH better at detailing the community)

These are my issues with the way the game is being designed around (and balanced around):

The game promotes a competitive scene, yet it lacks any balance to it. The fact they don't do anything about it yet they pour a new skin or toxic taunt every other month tells you what the developers' priorities are (its a business after all). Toxicity is a moneymaker. Even Brawlhalla's top players complain about the things mentioned and even more, yet in years those complaints have not been adressed at all. Boomie (#1-2 player depending on the year) has complained about a lot of stuff throughout the years, Sandstorm (undeniably #1) focuses on playing Smash competitively yet he absolutely DESTROYS this scene, eggsoup (ex-top 8 regular) constantly points out the problems with the community and the meta, dopameme (one of the guys who made the best exhibition combo videos) has complained and left the competitive scene due to several instances of lacking balance. These are people that have thousands of hours poured in the game and they all agree with this.

Most Brawlhalla players will defend the game till the end as a fighting game but have never ever played other fighting games in their life. Being toxic and sending death threats and generally inappropiate slurs is the name of the meta.

The game is addicting, not gonna lie, but I do not recommend it when you have to face an absurd amount of toxicity if you're a casual and an insanely passive and unbalanced meta if you're playing competitively.

bought this game back in legacy, didn't play much back then until a year later.

seriously a big no, from other reviews i've wrote, this one tops a big dislike to me. I'm a competitive player and a skilled one to so i get cranky when a game becomes to easy. This is exactly what this game has became in the past 4 years, since the boom in 2020 it made this game turn into a pu ss y show. Devs are actual sensitive freaks. I loved this game to pieces but they've changed over the years, i could write so much about this game but i can't be bothered as who the ♥♥♥♥ would see this. It wouldn't matter either because how much these devs don't listen to their community anymore, so i made bullet points instead.

- BAD GAME ENGINE (unity) Now they charge rust per download (deserved) as they had the choice to switch over to unreal and they were to lazy (factual) now they regret it with the constant stutters and invalids in the game.

- BAD RECOIL SYSTEM (revamped) because now the bullets are more randomized its less competitive and more rng and luck based. Meaning less of a skill based game and there wont be no skill gap in the game, being out numbered is a easy shutdown, there is less clutches and less likely you will fight against a zerg since now it doesn't depend on skill. TALKING ABOUT THE ZERGS

- THE MASSIVE SUPPORT TO THE ZERGS, the zergs get from devs (train systems, MLR systems, scrap heli, tug boats, and much more) and now add that with the massive NON SKILL BASED recoil system. LMAO goodluck fighting against a 5 man as a duo, used to do it all the time but not anymore because of all these factors.

- NO OPTIMIZATION, this game has no optimization and the more updates they push towards it the more heavy the game gets, note this is also on a indie game development engine. This game is not mean't to be built on such a simple engine. So for them to be idiots and push out more updates instead of just really making rust 2 like they state they would because they didnt want it on unity only because they didnt wanna be charged anymore (greedy devs) its just so funny. The frequent stutters and senstive lag spikes you can get out of this game constantly i can legit spoke a stick at ubisoft and not get nearly as much laugh out of them with their problems as much as this.

- MASSIVE CHEATING PROBLEM, this game really struggles with their cheaters and no matter what you'll come across them pretty often.

- MASSIVE P U S S Y COMMUNITY, im calling out all roof campers, yes i've done it but justified only for dropping supply drops or raiding. How much of a unskilled scum do you have to be to snipe someone from inside your base. Things i did to find enjoyment and satisfcation from this is by walking around finding these bases and seeing if they're online and started online raiding them by first making a watch tower right next to their base and roof camp their asses while my team raided them or vice versa.

i could do much more but these are the bigger complications.
responses i've gotten to these statements (note how they are all from only the recoil).

-"the old recoil was patterned. so what your saying is you want to make the game easy again?"

no. Because it was patterned it was a larger skill gap that made for a actual competitve gameplay to a game that was built on being hard and diffucult. (its not easy to learn patterns)

- "A predetermined recoil system sounds really, really lame. For multiple reasons: it enables hackers, it's not realistic, it's not fun..."

the new recoil system doesn't just stop the hackers from beaming and cheating, and game is not based on realism either way, none the less your opinion on fun is different from others.

- "A predetermined recoil pattern is alot easier to make a script for that doesnt have to interact with the game in any way ,but hacks that beam with a random pattern *do* have to interact with the game"

reinventing the wheel sounds like a good way to spend the day instead of improving the anti-cheat yep, changing that one thing wouldnt even affect the cheating community very much. if you think the only way someone can kill you is because of a recoil script, youre wrong. even if they did patch that at the expense of ruining one of the main things that gives this game depth and replay value and a steep learning curve that makes it feel more realistic (for the ones that want realism apparently) theyd find 20 other ways to come kill you, whether its ESP or aimbot. you can still have an aimbot without having learned recoil to exploit. if they removed it completely, aimbot would just become more prevalent and youd still die, in almost exactly the same way too. simply learning to spray in this game evens the playing field with scripters. the only way they can kill you at the point you know how to spray is if they have aimbot, ESP or some other cheat, or are just better than you.

- "it was better the recoil got changed because im not a no life that spends there days away sweating to learn a spray on a guy"

it legit takes less than a month to learn every spray in the game atleast it did for me as a fps player. You could've learned the ak spray within 2 weeks and beamed someone with it, its called practice in a game. (usually these people that state this same comment are the same ones with thousands of hours in a grinding game like WoW)

my finisher

i geniunally would be fully up to the thought of having a 1 on 2.8 million rust devs world wide meeting to talk about all of this cause this isn't just a little problem since this came along about 6 years ago, these issues are slowly arising and they're trying to bury it under a rug. I really hope rust 2 will have a fresh start and im glad it will be on unreal engine because they know they really did ♥♥♥♥ up. My only concern is they will still keep the same terrible recoil system to their 2nd game as they did with their 1st.
