Minoria is another game in the Momodora style line of games, and that's great if you've been following Momodora for awhile and crave another good Metroidvania game. Minoria is different though and a breath of fresh air to the series. It does bring back the 0 hit bonus Boss reward that we've seen in previous Momodora games.

PRO:
  • Story: Minoria introduces more of a story into the series which is a nice change. While it
isn't a complicated story it gives us a reason to push forward.

  • Dialogue: This game features a lot more dialogue than previous installments that help
    flesh out our characters nicely.

  • Combat: Combat is something you'll have to relearn in a way if you were a big fan of Momodora Reverie. The jump to 3d causes the combat to feel a bit slower at the start, with most early bosses having their fights start with you spamming all your spells so you won't have to stay close to them for as long. It does improve though with the addition of each new weapon style power up and the more used to combat you get.

  • Movement: The movement options in this game feel fantastic once you make a bit of progress in it. The addition of your first new sword type opens up a whole new world of movement as it gives you a slight increase in height when used in the air. This can interestingly be canceled into a parry within the air, and if you are fast enough can spam these two actions to keep most of your height and "Float" sideways.
CON:
  • Parry: A new Parry system is introduced in this game that is a bit hard to master. Honestly by the end of the game I never considered parrying an option during combat and always relied on classic rolling.

  • Partner: They introduced a partner dialogue mechanic in this game where your buddy would react to things and you could press a button to hear their thoughts. This is very rarely used in the game and felt like a missed opportunity.

Ultimately if you enjoyed previous Momodora games Minoria is still fun game you should try. If you are new to Momodora, but are still a fan of Metroidvania style games Minoria is worth trying (And if you try it and like it I suggest going back and playing the previous "Momodora: Reverie" as it is also a very good game)
