Bought the game solely for Campaign as I had never played it before. So far the biggest problem is the way the AI works. Understandably this is an old game but I wish they had made some significant changes to the AI in the Remaster instead of having your team AI never do anything and sometimes get you killed because of body collision. Stealth honestly feels like it's kind of useless because you'll most likely be spotted anyways as some enemies seem to possess some innate sense to just detect you even if you're behind obstacles etc.

Otherwise the campaign has been enjoyable so I do recommend it on that end, don't play it on Veteran Difficulty if you don't want to experience more frustration

Fire in the hole


Recently came back to the game as 2.2 released, fun update despite some bugs here and there. New level is fun and finally managed to complete my first demon levels which were Clubstep & Theory of Everything 2, felt great and now close to finishing Deadlocked which is at 80% right now.

Flower Man my beloved, I can fix them

You love the original Half-Life? Then you're most likely going to love this too. Black Mesa is an extremely well made remake of the original game, there are more levels and the game feels smooth overall. They did the Gonarch & Nihilanth boss fights justice in the remake as it's more engaging, harder and lasts for longer as the original fights only last for about ~3-5 minutes if you're good.

Black Mesa also has very good difficulty scaling, the only issue I've noticed is that especially on Hard, the Marines become.. very hard, which for me at least is fine because it forces me to adapt and play more safe. The game still has some issues and the biggest one for me is the Marines and how tanky they are, otherwise everything about the game is great.

Definitely a 9/10, can only recommend

The Spider-ling, Spider-boy did the things here and there

I'm still getting used to the flow of the game as I don't play a ton of turn based strategy games. I'm really liking the gameplay though, most of the fights seem fair, although some of the enemies I don't still fully understand and currently kind of struggling with the 2nd boss (just a skill issue on my end) but eventually I'll be able to figure it out.

All characters are fun to use and have a lot of variety with abilities and builds you can use once you unlock different abilities. I like that you unlock more items as you progress the game for different expeditions.

Enemies can be very challenging but feel rewarding to beat

Recommend this game if people want a challenging yet (somehow) a relaxing experience, this game has been a much needed break for me from the usual kinds of games I play.

Editing my review a bit after completing all trials and all difficulties

The game is still seriously a lot of fun and there's more to be had in the future, I'm sure of it. All trials are well designed and are unique in their own ways. The harder difficulties definitely prove to be a challenge and feels satisfying to get A ranks in the hardest of them. The item balance is good and fair, though some rigs might be a little overtuned and might need to have some looking into.

The enemies do enough damage and are fast enough to feel threatening, each with their own abilities.

One of my only problems with the game is how enemies can sometimes camp objectives or patrol extremely close to it, and never leave the area. While this has the counterplay of throwing a bottle etc. or do a general sound distraction, they will very likely head back to the objective very soon afterwards regardless, and on solo runs this can be quite detrimental to deal with.

The game's a lot of fun for the majority of games but has some underlying issues that I hope to see to be changed in some way in the near future

This game right now honestly feels more like a shoot the enemy than steal the briefcase and be a spy kind of thing. With this kind of a game and how it was promoted to be, I love the feeling of being a spy and being able to outsmart the enemy in clever ways. Shooting the enemy constantly feels a bit underwhelming as people already do that in a lot of other games anyways.

The other thing I've got sort of mixed opinions about is people repeatedly camping bodies or objectives. While this is a valid and a very effective strategy, I personally at least do not enjoy being on the receiving end of this as there's very little you can do in this situation and are nearly guaranteed to die because of this if you're in a position where you have no option but to go for said objective or revive. And camping in general in this game doesn't seem that fun to me regardless, but that's just my opinion of course.

More maps, more objectives in the future to get the game to last longer, more balance to characters, some are crazy powerful right now.
